Went swimming with my evo in my pocket last night. So boneheaded....
I usually check first, but for some reason, got distracted and after 30 minutes in our pool, just happened to feel the phone in my pocket.

Do you normally carry your phone around in your swimsuit pocket though? Or do you swim in your regular pants? I just don't see how one could accidentally leave their phone in their pocket while swimming...

LOL.. I was cleaning the pool (I'm so poor I have to do it myself), and my wife was going to go swimming with my 3 yr old. I had on my trunks so I wouldn't get my regular clothes wet while using the pool vac and skimmer but wasn't going to go in the pool. Son comes out and says mom is busy folding laundry and long story short, I felt my pockets for my phone, but it was down deep near my knees and didn't feel it. I never have my phone in my trunks pocket, but had yesterday because I hadn't planned on going swimming.. One of those situational things that I screwed up on.

Aye, its dead.. And we have a saltwater setup on our pool so the saltwater has already started corroding the connections.

I'm picking up another phone after work from a craigslist find so hopefully I'll be back in business soon. My memory card still worked and I took a backup yesterday so we'll see what happens.

Reminded me when I my son jumped in the pool then pulled his PSP out of his trunk. The battery literally blew up within minutes of me pulling it. It got hot, swelled up then I tossed it in a metal empty garbage can where it blew. I did the rice thing on the PSP and a week later I confirmed its demise.

Also reminds me of an old samsung flip-phone I had that was dropped in my coffee mug, submerged in the dogs water bowl and dropped in the toilet. Each time I took it apart, washed it, dried it, put it back together and it worked. Dump-phones FTW! 🙂

Yeah I had a RAZR that was in my pocket during an extremely heavy rainstorm while I was in a field with no shelter at all. May as well have jumped in a pool. When I turned it on, the main screen didn't work, but the outside screen did and I could still dial using the voice recognition.

Worked for another ~3 years before it finally died a month ago (was my brother's phone at that point).

Sorry your phone died an early death.

You should be able to find a used replacement pretty cheap, I think the EVO is nearly a perfect phone with the developer community behind it.

Shows what happens if you support a platform for about a year, I'd like to see an 18 month commitment from the manufacturers on each phone, it would give the aftermarket some relief to make decent cases and accessories.

Found a replacement. Bought it for $210.00 and its in pristine shape. Problem is, the user has upgraded to 2.3.3 which, as of right now, is not rootable, so I'm stuck with this horrible sense ui that hurts to look at.

Dump the appropriate amount of salt in your pool (for me it was around 60 lbs and the salt is like $5.00 for 40 lbs), and this unit takes the salt and makes chlorine. Basically its a soft water setup for a pool but the chlorine is much nicer and much much cheaper to operate and use. You can't taste the salt either.
