[DEAD] EVGA GTX480 1.5GB video card - $215FS@Tigerdirect

Update - 4/13/12

Yes, the GTX480 for $210 is back from the dead, available with coupon code EVGA48417 from Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130759

The last time we saw this price, there was no HD7850 to compete with. Has AMD made it too difficult for a power-hogging, hot-running GTX480 to compete at $210?

Only you can decide!!!

Great card, I had one but it was like having a leaf blower in my office. Something to keep in mind if noise bothers you

I have one. They are quiet when they are idle. I use Afterburner to set the fan speed to 80% when I am gaming, it stays at 68c on Crysis 2. They are pretty good cards.

Just a quick addendum to my original post. Looks like AMD is pulling its cards off the market in anticipation of the new 7800-series cards. The 6950 is basically sold out: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...73&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=20

The 6970 is almost entirely sold out as well, and the only available models are around $400: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...3901 600095874&IsNodeId=1&name=Radeon HD 6970

My hunch is that AMD is preparing for a high-priced onslaught of new cards, which will offer equivalent speeds to the 6950/6970 for close to what they're selling for right now.

As shown here, the GTX480 overall beats the 6950 in performance: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/309?vs=293

Assuming the 7850 comes in at around $250+ with 6950-class speed, you just won't beat this GTX480 in price/performance. The power draw and heat are not great, but at least it's a proven, robust card. I've seen a heck of a lot more posts about fried GTX570, GTX560Ti, and GTX560Ti-448 cards than GTX480s. Plus, the GTX480 is about equivalent to the 560Ti-448 for much less money: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/309?vs=499

Also trades blows with a 570.

Termie, you are making a pretty good argument for jumping on this deal. LOL

ARRRGH! Where is my crystal ball when I need it???

Anyone know if any of this info is close to being true? ----> http://lenzfire.com/2012/02/entire-nvidia-kepler-series-specifications-price-release-date-43823/

Even if it were true (and I think the performance comparisons are optimistic), you're still looking at GTX480-class performance for $250 by mid-year:

Nvidia Kepler GTX650Ti
•850MHz Core clock
•1.75 GB 5.5GHz GDDR5 Memory
•448 Stream Processors
•224bit Bus Width
•Priced at $249
•Performance similar to GTX570

I think we can beat that right now, no? 😉

BTW, the reason we can pretty much call those performance numbers BS is that somehow we're led to believe that Nvidia will sell a GTX550Ti-class card for $140, which is far more expensive than the 550Ti, and yet will offer 580-class performance for $320. Why would Nvidia ever try to recoup investment by overcharging on the low-end and undercharging as performance increases? I think the price estimates are accurate (or at least logical), but the performance almost certainly will not be as high as suggested.

Even when the newer cards come out it's not like this card is going to lose tremendous value. I bet in 6 months it would still fetch $165 used. The amount of money you would lose is less than a crappy night out for dinner at the local Chili's and you won't have the squirts the morning after.

I think this is a fine card for the money but it's still more than the GTX 480 deal back in October/November at Newegg.

So tempted; must resist...waiting for Kepler before pulling the trigger on my next GPU purchase...

Oh man, so tempting. I love my 470. If I didn't have a waterblock on my 470, I'd buy this in a heart beat. I'd have to get a waterblock too though 🙁

Its a great deal, the heat and noise complaints are really the only things holding me back............

Agreed. Right now my 560Ti is VERY quiet, but I'd like a little bit more speed...
If Idle is quite I'd be fine but I can't seem to determine this 🙁

Great Card. The later GTX 480s tend to overclock quite well too. Before I switched the cooler on mine to an Accelero Xtreme Plus it overclocked to 820/2100 on stock volts with little increase in temperature. At my current OC it comes out a little ahead of a stock 580 in most benchmarks. The Accelero is whisper quite and keeps it in the 60s at load.
