Less than a year? I'm confused, isn't their return policy something like 30 days?

Return, yes. Replacement? Think they just handle the mfr's RMA through the store for convenience.

Take it to BB. And where's the damn poll? :p

I just want to do whatever's more convenient. Can I walk in to BB and walk out with a new drive, or do I have to wait for them to RMA it before I can get a new one?

Last time I checked their return policy was, what, 14/30 days? How do you expect to go into Best Buy and return it?

I work at best buy as a service tech. Technically they say they 'honor the mfg warranty'. However good luck with getting them to actually swap one out for you and not telling you to goto the mfg.

Didn't know that. From all my past experiences with BB and retail in general, BB seems to be a "It's right here on the fvcking receipt try reading it before returning it" type place

I am 99% sure that Best Buy will take it back and give you a credit of sorts for equal or lesser value.

They can look up your receipt and see how much you paid for it

The greatest advantage of retail stores is the free RMA process. Come on down to Staples....buy a 120gb, swap it, and return the defective one in the new box. No restocking, no shipping charges, nothing.

Great. Nothing better than arguing with people. Thanks for the info.

Yes but the serial numbers don't match. I didn't work much CS while at Staples but I constantly got on the manager's @$$es because I saw that $hit all the time. Once the dipsh!t working CS saw a HD but didn't care as to WHAT hd got returned. Turns out some j-hole bought a 80GB Maxtor and returned a 800MB WD wrapped in the anti-static bag. Course that's stupidity on the guy who took it back, but still - the managers didn't seem to care much. Glad I don't work there anymore

No but they're not checking.

I returned a Logitech Force 3D joystick which was acting up...I think it was about 10 months old, and I don't believe I had the box..just the joystick/power cable & receipt. I got a brand new one without any problem...but maybe the CSR was better than most :)

What!? You buy a 120gb drive last year and you get enough money back to buy a 200gb drive now? That doesn't seem right. They always give me the same size drive or a little bigger.
