DEAD...Dell: Mitsubishi DLP-TV 3dReady 65" for $799

FYI they also have the 60" for $699 ($100 cheaper for 5" less screen) and the 73" for $1099. I don't know of anywhere outside of a projector where you can get a 73" TV for $1100, lol. The bulbs seem to be going for around $99, which isn't a bad price. I've been eyeing one of these for my parents to replace their aging RPTV - these Mitsubishis seem to have pretty good reviews across the board. Also found a nice BR player for it - Sony has the BDP-S470 3D Bluray player for $130 on Amazon, which includes Netflix, Amazon Unbox, and Pandora:

Anyone know of a good corner stand for one of these? Having a hard time finding one that doesn't cost half the price of the TV...

Has anyone actually seen 3D on one of these? Is it at least as good at Real 3D in the theaters? Or Imax 3D?

Yup - doesn't work without the magic box. And glasses. And 3D Bluray player. And 3D movie. And magic fairy dust.

That's ridiculous though, honestly it is retarded that a little box and 2 pairs of glasses cost that much. Especially for a TV that advertises 3D ready...after you pay an extra $400.

Nah nah, you gotta understand marketing - it's 3D "Ready", as in ready for you to buy more crap to make it 3D-enabled :whiste:

What are whining about?
Where else can you get a 3d ready tv that size with that $$$?
buy.com at times has had the box mark down to 1/2 price.
best yet you do not have to buy from Mits. Aftermarket starts flooding the market with their own for lots less. Go to avs forum under 3d, you will find zillions of threads on these subjects.

So I've been toying with getting the 72 or 82 inch of this for some time now..but in case you didn't know, they are releasing a 92" beast this year, I believe its only around 15" deep. 😀

lol I'd have to move to fit that in my living room

do these still have color wheels? I had a Samsung DLP that was nothing but trouble (replacing the bulb was easy, but fixing the color wheel every year was not acceptable--I threw the TV away after 3 agonizing years).

itll be a lil deeper than that.

my 65" is about 17 in deep.

I wonder what the pricing on the 73/83 do when the 93 comes out

I guess when they showed off the 93 they also had a 110" model on display as a prototype 😱

Nah, they've improved their DLP tech. And the big one was actually a 155" OLED screen 😱 drool...but they are saying it will only be marketed for stuff like billboards...

Been reading through some AVS Forum threads on these. The Ikea LACK stand ($49) is apparently a pretty popular stand for these televisions:

Very nice, thanks for that.

FWIW I bought one of these from TD on Black Friday and the overscan was atrocious. I had it hooked up to my HTPC and couldn't see the Windows button, nor could I see the menu when I clicked it which made the TV practically worthless. The picture looked great though. I returned it because there was a mark on the screen where another box smashed into it and another one is on the way. Apparently the degree of overscan varies TV to TV but there is no fix for it other than setting up a custom resolution which I don't want to do. If the new one is as bad it's going back and I won't be trying a 3rd.

Got my 60" Mits DLP on Black Friday for $599 from TD and it's been a nice set. I see the color wheel every once in a while in high contrast scenes, but it's gotten a lot better since I sat down and finally calibrated it with VE. The picture is just amazing with any source above 720p and upscaled DVDs on my LG BD player look great too. SD is another matter, but I don't watch very much 480i material.

All TVs overscan by default...just that most LCD sets have a 1:1 option for PC input.
I just picked up a Sharp Aquos 60" LCD @BB for $1200 and it's awesome. My previous 3 TVs were DLPs and this is so much better. 1:1 is the preferred viewing mode for all HD sources.

My parents got the 60" and I just set it up for them today. Fired up a Bluray and WOW! Incredible! The only TV I've seen that trumps this is the 50" Pioneer Kuro - and I'd say the skintones actually look better on the Mitsubishi! (although 3D kid's movies look better on the Kuro due to the brightness from the screen type). We watched some "Lie to Me" (TV show) in HD over Netflix on a networked Sony Bluray player and some Bluray movies. Absolutely spectacular. Even uncalibrated, the picture looked amazing!

The viewing angles are excellent, as is the brightness. In the past, my two biggest complaints of rear projection televisions were crappy viewing angles and dim screens, both of which are not a problem with this DLP. Viewing angles are excellent - I get a perfect picture from every seat in the room. You have to go to very extreme angles to start getting the rainbow fade. Brightness is excellent. Blacks are DARK. Despite having to buy new bulbs for $99 - $129, I like that you can swap them out when the picture starts to fade, unlike a plasma or LCD TV.

Anyone know if the 65" and 73" have as good of a picture? Or the 82"? I regret not going with the 73" for $1099, if I had known it was going to be THIS good lol. Although the 60" just barely fits in the corner, so it wouldn't have mattered 😀

Bottom line - I would HIGLY recommend this TV if you do not require a flatscreen for wall-mounting. This is a mere 15" thick and only weighs 60 pounds. Pretty thin compared to the old RPTV's. Looks really sharp, has a nice thin bezel. As usual, totally unimpressed with the built-in speakers, but my parents have a set of Logitech Z-5500's, so sound is taken care of. Wow.
