Ordered it. We'll find out later if it will work or not. If it won't I'll just cancel.

When later will we find out if it works?

EDIT: I mean you only have a day or two to cancel the order without paying a restocking fee...

I wasn't aware of Dell Home ever charging a restocking fee. You won't actually ever find out anything until you get the rebate (or the rejection letter!) Remember that Dell Dimension 8250 fiasco?

Exactly! I never got $270 back on that deal...

EDIT: I think they do charge a restocking fee of some sort...or is it business that does that?

I had to really talk to one of the customer service reps to get my remaining $100 out of that deal.

Just be ready to fight for your money if you think you're eligible for the additional $100!

SHIPPING MAY BE TOO SLOW FOR REBATES

From lizardboy on FW "The biggest problem is going to the 30-day postmark for the rebates since Dell still hasn't shipped the 200GB drive I ordered on 9/11/03. I just got an e-mail today saying it won't ship out until 10/9/03."

Too much out in rebates for a drive I don't need. The deal is cool if only one rebate is paid, and ice cold if Dell is too slow and you miss the rebate submission window. Spotted the FW OP Thursday afternoon, and finally decided not to order. It has been taking Dell a month to get these drives shipped, before this hot deal generated 100's or 1000's of orders.

I'm planning to take this up with them still...

Order placed and confirmed. Estimated ship date "on or before Oct. 1st". Cutoff date to get both rebates is Sept. 27th, both must be postmarked within 30 days of that.

The only issue is will they honer both rebate forms?

If it turns out they will not, i still have a few days to cancel the order, so for now... i gamble.

I talked to a dell sales rep just for the heck of it and he didn't sound too sure about both rebates working. Even Dell seems unsure about this. I really don't understand what "up to" $200 in MIR means. As stated by someone earlier, I think the 2nd rebate is an extension to the 1st rebate, not an additional rebate. If anyone finds out otherwise, let us all know!!!

Here's some answers and some tips for the people who are *so* uncertain they need this much hand-holding.

1.) If you *purchase* the item during the valid dates, you are eligible for the rebates. If they don't ship it until the rebate ends, you can probably pick a fight about that with them. I won't cite examples, but just tell them what happened and they should credit or something.

2.) DO NOT CALL THEM. Hundreds of other people have, and they posted what they were responded with. YOUR CALL WILL NOT HELP ASIDE FROM FRUSTRAING OVERWORKED CSRS. Give them a break. Their replies vary from 'both are guaranteed' to 'only one is valid'. See below for rebate validity.

3.) These are DIFFERENT rebates. They are worded differently, and are clearly marked as seperate by the Dell site. This is not a 'price mistake', this is two seperate rebates listed with independednt ways to fulfil both. The problem right now is with wether WD will pay them or not.

Go with the flow and see what happens. If they try to shaft you, return it to them. If they have a couple hundred hard drives coming back at them, they will get the message. It is your priveledge as a consumer to use their return policy.

they are different rebates.

Rebate 1 says for 180 and 200 gb HD

Rebate 2 says for 200 and 250 gb HD

WD must have made a mistake putting the 200 on both

Just got off the phone with the WD rebate center, and the guy there reassures me that this will NOT work.

And this is the explanation (stated right on the rebate form): Offer is limited to one rebate per customer/name/address...

So, it appears that it's one rebate per WD product per customer and that Dell posted these two rebates in error. I believe that they meant the second rebate (expiring on 10/10) as a sort of extension to the first one...

What about sending the second rebate to a friends house?

Where the rebate states that the rebates are only good for 1 per address/name/customer, does that mean billing name/address? or does that include the shipping too? Let's say I ordered it with my name/billing, and another person did the same thing. But we both ship it to work which is the same address, but to our names. Will they have a problem with this?

I would think they mean the address of the person receiving the rebate. So you could try using two different addresses for the rebates, but i doubt that would fool them. I imagine they have some sort of database setup for tracking these rebates and unique keys such as your Dell order number or product serial number could be cross referenced to trace those two rebates back to the same purchase. Again, i think the big issue here is will they honor both of the rebates? Since the requirements for "proof of product" attachments are open enough to allow for two rebates on the same product purchase says that they will either allow the two rebates or that they screwed up royally.
If you are the gambling type, i would follow their instructions to the letter and use the same address for both so that you don't violate the terms. From there it may be a matter of crossing your fingers or raising a little stink to get them to honor both.

Every rebate lists a maximum number for that particular rebate. That is all it means. Still in doubt? Go look at EVERY multiple rebate in these forums and you will see that every one has a limit (usually 1). That doesn't mean you can't do the other rebates. If the two rebates had identical descriptions and addresses (including the name/number of the rebate program) then it is definetly a problem. This is two completely different rebate programs. Did WD or Dell mean to offer both rebates? Probably not. Maybe they screwed up. Maybe they will try to stiff the customers and you will have to fight for your rebate or return your used drive (if they insist on that alternative).

And be careful going with what a rep tells you on the phone. If they know about the mistake or mistakes like this in general, its pretty safe for them to tell you you will only get one rebate; it saves them from paying out for two or fighting with a customer. And the reps often make things up as they go. For example, I won't mention the rebate because the statutes of limitations may not be up yet ;-) but there was a rebate that said limit x per houshold, but required the ORIGINAL receipt. I called because I had one receipt with all x of them on it. The first guy said: send in ONE rebate request and they will see you had multiple items and send you a rebate for all of them. I was suspicious and called again and was told to mail in one form for each item and a COPY of the receipt. I did the latter. They actually sent me a rebate check for all X items for each submission! LOL

I just did the CC rebate WD160/200. So I'm not so sure I could /would/ or can qualify as I've already done the one name, one address, one household deal? Sooo tempting. LOL I hope you all qualify!!!!!!!!!!! KUDOS.😎

I called Dell and they said flat out that the rebates will not BOTH be honored. I also did a Dell CHAT and came up with the same thing.

They said that they will not honor the WD rebate becuase they are not WD. Total and complete BS. They are using the rebates to lure people in knowing full well that they will not be honored.

They are also not going to honor any more rebates they use. Dell told me both in chat and by phone that they are not covering any more rebates by other parties, whatever the case.

If you ordered, cancel now, or prepare for an annoying fight.

I just thought about the issue if dell can't the drives out within 30 days, why not go to best buy and get a drive and use the UPC and Capcity label to get the rebates going, and then return the drive to best when dell delievers it? The only thing i would see being a problem is going past best buys return window.....

I smell a turd. I'll probably cancel my order since I don't really NEED this storage. 🙁

If it's a mistake, Dell should pull one of the rebates, otherwise they shouldn't resort to illegal bait and switch tactics.

Well, Dell won't honor either of the rebates and that isn't who we should be worried about. The rebates are through WD not Dell. So getting WD to honor both of the rebates is the X factor.

They are different offers (if you go by previous Dell offers), as the PDFs are named differently (which usually corresponds to Dell's Offer #).

Both Western Digital and Dell need to be more careful with the rebates they post in the future, both to protect the customers and themselves from this kind of mistake.
