Well I've done it. Ordered, and printed out both rebates and the page showing $200 in rebates, and the description page showing two rebates of $100. Should make a heck of a Samba server.

I had to bite. Even for $40, was worth it. Got a screenshot of 'up to $200 in rebates' too...

Bill, my understanding is that one type of rebate per household. They are 2 different types of rebate. Just because they are for the same amount does not make them the same rebate.

Not sure why you guys are taking screenshots ? The rebates are redeemed through WD not dell it looks like so it won't matter much what dell ahs posted on this. As far as the rebates being up there, it's prob a lot like the law they passed in CT. Dell is really only showing you that there are rebates on the drive, they haven't really made any promises on rebates unless they include it in an advertised price, which they did not. Also, they say 'up to' $200 in rebates : $100 is 'up to $200' so that in no way implies they are guaranteeing you the full $200, it in fact seems to show that they're skeptical themselves.

I think you're right lzpoof. I'm waiting to order until I get verification from Young America that both rebates will be valid.

REPORT FROM THE REBATE CENTER - NO SOLID ANSWERS YET, PHOTOCOPY OF UPC OK FOR 1ST REBATE

A call to the 800 number revealed that only one of the rebates is currently showing in their system - the one from 9-1 to 9-27 (their tracking/job #4722-687). The CSR was wonderfully helpful, and read the details from their computer system, which gives the official bottom line rules. A photocopy of the UPC and capacity label will suffice for this rebate. When I read to him the verbage on the printed rebate stating that an original is required, he assured me that a photocopy of the UPC/capacity label would be just fine, that it is the rules in the computer that really matter and that sometimes vendors play it safe on the verbage of the printed rebate forms.

The second rebate (9-1 to 10-10) is not showing up in their system. He suspects that this is because it is a new one, and suggested checking back in a few days. He said that WD requires the original on roughly 90% of their rebates. When they allow photocopies on one it is usually because two rebates apply. He said that while this suggests that both may be accepted on this drive, there was absolutely no way that he could confirm it until the second rebate shows up in their system.

"I know what you're thinking. Did he fire five shots or six? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this commotion I've lost track myself. So you got to ask yourself one question. Do you feel lucky? Well, do you punk?"

I made out like a bandit on the Circuit City $10 / $120 GB deal. I'm not feeling lucky enough to pull this one off as well. Good luck to those who try it, though! I certainly think you will have a good argument if you end up having to argue about it.

I am going to skip it this time myself. I don't have a good feeling for this one. I also got on the CC deal and that was enough for me.

I'm very much tempted. I also have a $25 off $300 email coupon and also need to get one of those little flash drives...

Ordered it. We'll find out later if it will work or not. If it won't I'll just cancel.

When later will we find out if it works?

EDIT: I mean you only have a day or two to cancel the order without paying a restocking fee...

The second rebate just showed up for me online. I got my order confirmation, but it says the drive will not ship until 10/1 at the earliest, will this cause a problem with the rebates you think?

Last I checked, the rebates said 'purchase by', and printing your statement Dell e-mailed/has under your account you counted as a sales receipt [dated, I might add].

BTW, the thread at FW is going at light speed : ) At this rate they'll hit page 80 by the end of the day.

I think that it's the order date that matters...As long as you send it out within 30 days of purchsing it, it should work fine.
BTW, I saw and printed out the second rebate form rightaway without any problems. They are definitely two different forms and all... Also, the first rebate form says you need the original WD capacity label from the box. The second says original WS capactiy label or UPC from the box. The way I see it, this should work.

I've been trying to verify this with Dell (sales, customer service and rebate center), without much reassurance. I'm holding for WD right now to see if they know anything.

I wasn't aware of Dell Home ever charging a restocking fee. You won't actually ever find out anything until you get the rebate (or the rejection letter!) Remember that Dell Dimension 8250 fiasco?

Just got off the phone with the WD rebate center, and the guy there reassures me that this will NOT work.

And this is the explanation (stated right on the rebate form): Offer is limited to one rebate per customer/name/address...

So, it appears that it's one rebate per WD product per customer and that Dell posted these two rebates in error. I believe that they meant the second rebate (expiring on 10/10) as a sort of extension to the first one...

I ordered mine first thing this am. I saved copies of both rebated and screen shots of the site showing the $200 in rebates. My plan: Send in the first rebate right away, wait approx 3 weeks and then send in the second. Hopefully, the separation might keep any of the processors from recognizing the name (I have a very unique name) . Do anyone think that will make a difference or will that work against me? (meaning the delay will allow the database/data entry to 'catch up').

just some thoughts
