DEAD! Dell Dimension C521 (AMD 3600/512/80GB) 19" LCD = $399

I agree the RAM is limited, small hard drive also, but for $400 shipped to your door, no rebates, you have a reasonably powered system and a 19" LCD, really not a bad deal. You also have the option to go with Windows XP instead of Vista.

Add a little RAM and it should be a decent Vista system (if one swings that way)

Exactly.

There have been several deals lately offering 2GB for around $95 shipped.

Yep...and if you have the extra coin, I'm sure you could buy 2 of these systems and sell one off locally to keep the second monitor for yourself.

Or in my case 5 systems 😉

I'll probably earn $600 profit after deducting fees and shipping costs.

Wow nice deal.
I'm running one of these in the office (albeit with 4200+, 2GB, 250GB HD and 1300 Pro) and its a great, silent, fast little machine. Runs Vista Business smooth as hell with 4 VMs (XP, Ubuntu, Server 2k3, and um...another OS) always running in the background.

Can anyone comment on the ease of use of the DVD drive in the tower configuration?

I burn a lot of discs and want to use this a tower config, vertically. Can you easily swap discs with the drive configured this way?

Thanks!

Not bad for $400. As has already been said, throw in some more RAM and it's perfect for an office or not as much RAM and it's perfect for grandma. 🙂

Nice, this is perfect system for people who are always asking "what should I build for my grandma so she can e-mail recipes to her friends" instead of posting some $1500 build from Newegg. 😛

Still alive for maybe another 1 hour 20 minutes.

Dell deals usually expire at 11PM CST, sometimes sooner.

E520 19" LCD for $469

Thanks, that seems to be a better deal.

Here's what you get for $70 more:

Dimension E521 vs C521, larger case.
1GB vs 512MB RAM
DVD-RW vs DVD-ROM

PS how the hell do you get home premium? Can you call and have them add it or what? Only upgrade options were BUsiness and Ultimate.

I missed out on the first like 10 iterations of this deal. I was finally able to get in on the 479 link cyberia posted. $555 shipped and I got a 20in lcd instead of the 19in. I can't wait to play around with vista.

So you wouldn't think twice about recomending this (the second deal since the first is dead) to my father in law, doing basic websurfing and wordprocessing? Since I'm on a budget, (it'll be his B-day present), would this be a good bargain in general? What are the chances that even before this system ships, I'll find something better? Thanks everyone.
