The display is beautiful, but as has been said: too bright (calibration can fix that); many

Crap I thought I was the only person who could hear squeals out of nearly any electronics.. drives me out of my mind to hear squealing too..

looks like I wont be ordering a 2405 until they get that fixed for good.. I am on a 2005fpw now and its (honestly) big enough.. I'm in portrait right now and its already too tall this way to be comfortable.. I'd think the 2405 in portrait would really make one crow their neck up and down to scan/read it all.

I'll be sticking with the 2005 until they get the noise fixed completely.. I think I'm happy with this size regardless.. I couldnt see myself enjoying a 2405 in portrait.. it'd be cool sure.. but to use everyday it'd get old having somethign so incredibly tall.

My 2405 is great. No noise. No dead pixels, no stuck pixels, makes me breakfast, etc.
Luck of the draw!

ur the man for posting this raiderj
the only issue i had with mine was the stand
perfect other than that

as far as the 2005fpw being big enough i have the 2005fpw and the 2405fpw
2005 is dwarfed by the 2405 i'm sure you have seen pics of them side by side

both are excellent monitors but the 2005 seems so small now hehe

I cant risk it myself. I have a Sony WEGA tv that hums and it drives me insane, so much that I dont really even watch it.

I never said that the 2405 was too big in landscape mode.. I dont think you can get too big that way.. but in portrait mode even my 2005 is almost too tall.. its almost tall enough that you have to move your neck around.. and I think the 2405 would be "too tall" in portrait mode for my taste.
I'll probably get one regardless but only when they have the squealing fixed for all of them. The 2005s soemtimes have backlight issues (which mine does) but I can live with that.. I only gave $400 or so for it.
Anything is better than a CRT in my mind. Cleartype+DVI=bliss. Portrait mode is just plain addictive too.

You don't have to have it in landscape mode. Regular widescreen mode has more pixel "height" than the 2005 anyway (1080 vs 1200).

Why are you concerned that ALL of the 2405's shouldn't have squealing.... and not just the one you get? Waiting until every product off an ASSEMBLY line is perfect before purchasing would be silly. Plus, you have to remember that those people unhappy with their 2405 are much more vocal than those who are happy.

Well I'd like to purchase a 2405 myself, but I hope to hear that people are no longer recieving squealing units first.
For me, the added size is sooo not worth a squealing lcd. I have sensitive ears though, so I am different from most.

The added height in landscape does not appeal to me, 1080 vs 1200 is not that much difference. but 1920 vs 1680 is.. but it might be a BIT much too tall in landscape as this 1680 is actually pushing it

Here's my deal on the squeling LCD: I received a brand new replacement monitor that squeals, and Dell is giving me the runaround. They asked me to hook it up to several friends computers to determine whether or not it's my machine/video card that's causing the squeal, even though the problem occured with an X800XL and the stock NVidea card on a Dell 4550. Now they're bouncing back between Customer Support and Tech Support, pointing the finger at each other and saying that only the other support service can process a refund. Tech Support told me that if CS refuses the return, then I've bought a very nice monitor.

Is the 2405fp the only LCD display known to have this problem or is it common with large LCD displays?

Someone in another post told me to keep an eye out for a Benq 23" LCD that is supposedly better than the 2405 from Dell and similary priced.

A quick froogle search showed prices beginning at $1296 which is signficantly more than the $900 (after the Dell w/coupon adjustment)

http://www.benq.com.au/HomeShowProduct.asp?prodID=358

The FP231W is BenQ's newest 23 inch LCD monitor. Featured with a super slim bezel (only 16mm thick)and a video solution with S-video and composite connectors. The FP231W is also equipped with a 4 port USB 2.0 hub. The viewing angle is 176/176 for both horizontal and vertical viewing, and with a response time of 16ms, the FP231W, has the ultimate specifications in 23" wide LCD monitor.

Wow! This really bothers me. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on this monitor but maybe I'll hold off now.

in the forums ??! you wanna buy some used overpriced crap go ahead. Otherwise you can "buy it now" on ebay for between 850 to 900 shipped (right now as well). This is usually comparable to the best dell deals considering if there is no tax for the ebay purchase.

What's the response time on Dell's 2405? I checked "Tech. Specs." on their web-site and the number is not there. [makes me think this is something they prefer that we don't know]

The dell is 12ms I think. Or 16...

Another one to look at is this HP 23" one.

You buy it on EBAY then you can say goodbye to your 3 year warranty!

Hi, I just want to know does dell 24" support HDTV? I know it has a DVI but in the tech. spec. it never mention that it supports HDTV. I really like this to be both PC monitor and a TV. Could someone help me out?

Thanks.

Your an idiot. Dell cleary states that warranties on monitors are NOT transferable. They also refused to warranty my monitor claim because it was bought from the forums here. Same deal with ebay, you have 0000 warranty if you purchase a Dell monitor on ebay and are completely at the mercy of the person you're on the phone with.

Have you try it in HDTV setting? If so, How is it compare to normal TV that support HDTV?

I just wonder if you can receive HDTV signal with Dell 24" using its DVI input.

Thanks in advance.
