well i received my monitor yesterday
1st thing is dang that box was big

after watching a few movies and playing a few games on this i have to say
this monitor is exactly what i said a beast
it reminds me much of my 2005fpw but just bigger and badder

thanks raiderj for posting i'll enjoy this for years to come
or at least until someone posts a decent 30 inch plasma display for less than $800
haha

Mine came in too - I've not tested it for bad pixels, backlight issues, etc. How did yours come out? Which revision did you get?

bigfil, have you experienced the whine that everyone is talking about? Mine starts the noise after about 45 minutes. It's not too bad, but I've heard that others are getting replacements that are quiet, so I ordered a replacement yesterday.

Otherwise, this is a great monitor.

i tried listening for a whine but i can't hear anything coming from the monitor
it must be a decent sample

one thing i did notice though when the monitor is pitch black
there is some backlight bleed from the top right of the monitor
this is only noticeable when transitioning between a game/movie from the desktop

should i order a replacement on this alone?

I don't think that I'd replace it for that. I'm worried that my replacement will have dead pixels or other issues, since the whine doesn't bother me too much. Oh well, if the replacement is worse, I'll send it back and keep the original. Actually, you could do the same thing to see which is better.

Mine had two dead subpixels, but no backlight/noise issues..... deciding if I want to send it back or not. A01 is the newest revision, correct?

If your stand is off, mount it to the wall :D

I love mine. No issues, no tissues. It's great. IF only BF2 supported WS:frown:

is it possible to set the resolution 1600x1200 and play in FS mode (bars on the left and right side of the screen) so it's the correct aspect ratio in games that don't support WS ?

Can someone give me an exact height and width dimension of the viewable screen area?

Dell lists some numbers, but they're definitely wrong. - probably include the stand.

Thx.

Well, if it's 24" on the diagonal, just use some simple geometry to find the length of the sides!

24" diagonal. 20.5" W x 12.5" H.

Putting this thing in portrait mode is unreal. So much info from one web page.

In landscape mode it's like being at the movie theatre. Amazing.

I do have the brightness cranked all the way down and it is still quite bright. Guess I'll have to actually read the manual...

Got mine in. No dead pixels, and next to the 2001, I would choose the picture on the 2405 anyday, regardless of size.
It impressed me enough to make me put away the 2001 for shipping to its next new owner, whenever he gets around to picking it up...

thanks for posting this. been waiting to pick up one of these for a couple of months now. It's exceeded my expectations, definately.

My first LCD came with two dead/stuck pixels, and a replacement is on it's way. However, I'm still undecided if I want to keep it or not. If I decide to sell, I'll do so at a fair price.

I got my replacement on 8/9, and it does not have the whining issue, dead pixels, backlighting: looks good so far. The stand, however, wouldn't lock in the all the way down position, so I'm using the stand from the original: it snaps into place nicely.

My replacement came in as well. No dead pixels, no backlighting issues. Looks great!

Since my replacement has a July build date, do you suppose that I can be confident that I didn't get a refurbished unit? The stand wouldn't lock in the down position, and the plastic collar (for lack of a better term) at the top was kind of loose: the previous stand was great.

I'm pretty sure that it's brand new, but I thought I'd ask.

I just want to say that I have had mine a few days (May 2005 build date) and I have the terrible whining noise after some hours of use.
The display is beautiful, but as has been said: too bright (calibration can fix that); many units have a nasty high pitched whine that will drive people with sensitive ears nuts.

I am debating what to do about mine... take a gamble and get a worse refurb or keep this and hope my headaches go away!

--EDIT_8.24_05--
I have temporarily rigged an 80mm Panaflo fan to the 2405fpw's right side vents. I have the fan running at 6volts and this is enough air to keep the nasty power supply from whining. Very simple (albeit ugly) fix. I realize most folks will want to send theirs back within the first 20-30 days, but this seems like a good solution to people that do not have that possibility. I might throw up a little tutorial with pics.

Crap I thought I was the only person who could hear squeals out of nearly any electronics.. drives me out of my mind to hear squealing too..

looks like I wont be ordering a 2405 until they get that fixed for good.. I am on a 2005fpw now and its (honestly) big enough.. I'm in portrait right now and its already too tall this way to be comfortable.. I'd think the 2405 in portrait would really make one crow their neck up and down to scan/read it all.

I'll be sticking with the 2005 until they get the noise fixed completely.. I think I'm happy with this size regardless.. I couldnt see myself enjoying a 2405 in portrait.. it'd be cool sure.. but to use everyday it'd get old having somethign so incredibly tall.
