[ *DEAD DEAL, sold out* ] Warm? *New pull* Intellimouse Explorer $22 + $6 S/H at Directron

Yea, but if this is the explorer mouse with the two extra left side buttons, it's a lot better then a generic logitech mouse. The side buttons work great for surfing the net by using them for back and forward. Looking at the bigger picture, it looks like it has the buttons and $28 shipped is a pretty good price. Has anyone confirmed if the mouse is the 3.0 version?

Good question. Directron also lists http://www.directron.com/intellimouse1.html and Microsoft shows that this one's mfg. number, B75-00011, belongs to a 5-pack of 3.0's, yet the picture is of the older body style. So YMMV, unless anyone has already scored one of these and can tell us what they got.

I have a "Microsoft Optical USB ans PS2 Compatible", and it looks just like these, and mine has the side buttons.

if it's 3.0, it's a killer deal. i am using it right now, and now i can't go back to use Logitech or MS older versions. IT'S THAT GOOD. you can feel it's lot lighter and faster

Means it was shipped with a new system, but never used. So if Directron got a whole bunch of overstocks from a PC maker and parted them out, these would be one of those parts.

MechBgon, it turns out that each different type and model of M$ hardware product has a specific warranty duration, so you need to keep this in mind when you call. This table shows the various products and warranty durations:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q173715

The rodents themselves, in addition to the PN, also have a manufacturing date code on the bottom label. It will be a 4 digit #, often in different looking print, like 0299 or 4101. The last two digits are the year and the first two are the week, so 41st week of 2001 for the latter date code. If they ask you the date you put the rodent into service, it needs to be within the warranty for that product, and not TOO far after the manufacture date.

As it turns out, the above referenced page says the "Intellimouse Explorer" has a "Lifetime limited warranty", which it may well need, as this model has a history of the cable crapping out from repeated bending where it enters the mouse body (inadequate strain relief).

Also, you can take some of the bite out of that $6 shipping charge by adding other items, like the $1 heat sink/fans or the various other mice that Directron sells for as little as $1 each.

I just received the two I ordered and it is indeed the newer 3.0 Intellimouse ... the serial number on the underside of the mouse does include OEM so the warrantywill probably not be the same as the retail version.

Just hope you don't have an RMA issue with Directron! They are as bad as it gets for running you around. Stay away for the few bucks you save!

Anyone who orders this, make sure that you don't get the look-alike generic mouse that Directron is also selling (MOU-silver). Guess who THAT happened to! Now I get to see if they are as bad as others say they are on RMAs. :| Hot deal? Maybe not.

Uh oh! :Q Do you mean that they sent you their generic mouse in place of the real thing, or that you accidentally ordered the wrong one? 🙁

edit: also, thank you for the informative reply, OneStepAhead. 🙂

Ouch! First I order the real Intellimouse and then get crap. Then I comment on Directron's mistake and get an ATer's crap. Fuhgettaboutit!

Doh! I didn't mean to upset you, I just wasn't clear on which end the mistake was on. Sorry about that. 😱

Not upset. I see now that if I can't write a clear complaint ("get" can mean ordered, which would show a mistake on my part), then a request for clarification is in order. Maybe I should have ordered one of their Burbies. In any case, my apologies for overreacting. 😱

It's all cool, I should have realized that you wouldn't be posting a complaint about Directron if it weren't their own error. 😱 I hope they send you the real one and let you keep the cheapie to make up for the hassle. 🙂

mechBgon must have esp. Directron just called; told me to keep the generic mouse and they'll send me the Intellimoue. Saved from RMA hell!

We all make mistakes; how we make good on them shows who should be the survivors. Long live Directron!😎

Limited Warranty: One year from invoice date with Directron.com. 30-Day money back with 15% restocking fee for non-defective returns. No credit or refund after 30 days. Customer is responsible for returning defective products including DOA due to manufacturer unless testing is paid before shipping

So, the oem warranty is from Directron for one year, not lifetime from Microsoft.

Still,

RCraig

I ordered one on March 4th and received an email today, March 5th, saying that they are "sold out" and that my order was "cancelled." So, this deal is "DEAD".

I received the mouse today, opened up the baggie it came in, and immediately smelled a scent remarkably similar to pot. Not the normal "new plastic" smell. Looked at the bottom of the mouse and the pads are warn. Even the area with the barcode is a little dirty. When you receive the mouse check to see if it is used.

I am mulling over doing a "discrepancy report form" with Directron.
