LOL - this is so typical. Read any real-world reviews and all of the above will be swapped.

Seagate rebates have been awesome for me. I usually get it back within 4 weeks. I am so tempted to get another one.

Yeah. I couldn't resist. I'd been fine since Saturday until I saw that. Ordered this evening. I'm hopeless. 😀

I agree. I got in on the 160 GB and 200 GB and now I'm going for this one. The rebates are *FAST*. Sweet deal and I was holding out for free shipping. Wahoo!

No no... this is the drive I back up all my other drives to! 🙂

I purchased this drive for 99.99 AR a month ago. Now, I'm considering this deal also.

I only buy seagate hard drives, since I have yet to see even one fail. 'nuf said.

Ok, now I just need a case that will take another HDD to move my HTPC into. 🙂

(a cheapey one 🙂 hehe...can't seem to find any)

I've got a failing Seagate 200GB 7200.7 sitting on the floor next to me. However, warranty ends in 2009 so no problem.

$80AR for a 300GB drive... tempting...

CMV, saw that post but the shipping is actually MORE then the case to me right now...so it makes it pointless 🙂.

Thanks for the help though.

No problem. Let me know what you end up going with. I'm thinking of buying the X-Qpack but I really don't like all the case windows that are reported to get easily scratched plus it's $$$ for not the typical video gear unit size.

Thanks OP ordered it. Could pass up at 300GB Drive for 80.00. I do wish it was a SATA but beggers can't be choosers. Does anyone know if this drive is a 7200.7 or 7200.8. You guys are going to make me poor on a hot deals forum 😉

7200.8
the 7200.7's only went up to 200gb

Just noticed an anomoly... tried to "pre-register" for the rebate at http://www.seagaterebates.com and the rebate number 05-38079 is rejected as invalid. I'm assuming that's the rebate number because it is the only number on the rebate PDF in the proper format of XX-XXXXX.

Unfortunately, this drive is a lemon. I installed 5 of them for A/V purposes and 4 have failed within 60 days. The symptons are the dreaded clicking sound, they run very hot, and they die after xferrign files for more than few minutes.

Seagate support has acknowledged the defective "SMOOTH" chip is the problem. It's a shame as my 200GB drives are fine --- back up now and pray.
