Mine is quite grainy too, but I'm running VGA -- with a new ati 9800 w/ DVI on it's way ...

Wow, I just set this mofo to 1280 by 1024 and it looks Perfect to me. What is supposed to be wrong with non native resolutions?

You realize what magnification that pic is at? These are LCD monitors, dudes. You get close to ANY lcd and you'll see screen door and pixels. A 20" LCD is a lot of real estate and even at 1600x1200 you will see pixels if you get close. I'm looking at a 2000FP and a 20001FP side by side right now and the pixel structure is not any different from one to the next. There is perhaps a slight "shimmer" on a bright white screen that I notice on the 2001 that is not as noticeable on the 2000 that I think is what people are referring to as "grain" and I believe this is from the anti-glare coating.
My second 2001FP will be arriving in the next couple days. I'll report back to see if there are any differences between the two. Really with I had a tri-head DVI video card

I disagree. You can get just as close to other LCDs and not see anything nearly that significant. But, I have come to some conclusions.
The "grain" that everyone is complaining about is basically the grid that seperates one pixel from the other. IE it is like looking at a sheet of graph paper. I'm not sure if this would fall into quite the description of "dot pitch" or not. But basically if a normal LCD looks like a sheet of graph paper, the 2001FP looks like a sheet of graph paper with VERY HEAVY LINES.
I don't know why it is so obvious on this monitor, whether it is because of its sheer size or what. But my SGI LCD does NOT exhibit the same effect, and I don't recall noticing it on any laptop screens, etc.
HOWEVER, I have noticed a few things. First of all - the grid is largely unnoticable when you use brightness and contrast settings of 50 or above. Second of all, the grid gets AWFUL if you start using settings like brightness=30 contrast=30. Third, it is significantly less annoying at viewing distances over 18" or so.
What's annoying is that every time I decide I can live with it, I notice the grid somewhere else. For instance, when looking at a page with very small thumbnails of images - the grid definitely interferes with the way you'd look at the thumbnails.

Brightness AND contrast? That means you're using the VGA input and not the DVI one since contrast is locked out in DVI mode. I'm using a Radeon 9700 Pro via DVI, my brightness is set to 0 (to better match my 1800FP) and I'm not seeing the grid lines anywhere near as heavy as in that screen picture above. The spacing between pixels is significantly smaller than on my 1800FP, and is essentially invisible if I'm not looking for it.

people. in DVI mode, you can right click, settings, advanced, color, and change brightness and contrast there!

Just got mine, initial reactions and few minutes of use --> WOW!!
then came the hunting part, found 3 stuck pixels, (2 bright blue, 1 dark blue)
also have the a slight light leakage on the top right all the way to the middle of the right corner.
This LCD is sooo bright that after adjusting the brightness to zero, I still have to adjust the brightness on the video card a lower, otherwise I need to wear my sunglasses!
I could still see slight light leakage on the right corner.
Can someone tell me whats "screen door"?? Tried to look very close to the screen it looks ok to me.

For those of you that sent yours back to Dell how were they about it? How about sending it back for a single dead pixel or 2 or just because you don't like it? I am still trying to decide on whether to buy.

Dude....3 stuck pixels is not defective. There are millions of the things, 3 stuck isn't bad. Especially if you don't notice them.
As far as how dell has reacted.
Well, they seem very nice to me. They set up overnight shipping. Plus they are shipping the new one and then I schedule a pickup for the old one. This way, I can set both of them up and look for dead pixels and the "lines". There is always the chance that the new one is going to be worse thatn the old one.
I beginning to get used to the small lines everywhere. I may end up keeping this monitor- especially since it would cost over 100$ to return it (dell sb). Text is readible and the monitor is much easier on my eyes than even my IBM p260.
I hate the lines but damn that 15% restocking fee is killer.

Yes there are one or two currupt files but it should still extract just fine. That is just how there were when I got them. I plan to add some more free pictures that I have found to that archieve shortly.
They have been great. If that is what is holding you back from purchasing one of these then dont let it.

there should be no restocking fee to return the monitors. I emailed Dell specifically about that and they said there would not be a fee (despite what it says in their policy).

Hmmm, actually it looks like there is a restocking fee on peripherals, but not systems. They don't qite know whats going on at the forums.
