was browsing around after I saw the 20% off tonight at dell, put together a deal. Not sure if its hot or not but the least expensive 60gig 7200 rpm I could find on pricewatch was the IBM GXP for $113

60gig 7200rpm - $139 Manufacturer Part# 0C503 Dell Part# 340-6820 <--any idea who made the drive?

MS SW Gampad $11.45 just a random 11 dollar item I chose, could be anything just do a search.

Sub-total $150.45
Discounts -$52.80 (25 off 150 + 20%)
Shipping1 $12.00
Shipping Discount1 -$12.00
Tax1 $0.00

Total Price1 $97.65

edit: updating, dead deal - 80 /7200 is still availible, check links later in thread.

That is a very good deal. Don't forget to use ebates! I always do - forget that is. Make sure you get a confirmation e-mail from Dell, because it seems there is a pattern forming of them "acknowledging" your order but not actually confirming it.

BTW: if you look at the specs:

Spin Rate: 7200 RPM
Avg Reading Seek Time: 8.7 MS
Drive Interface: ATA
Avg Rotational Latency: 4.17 mS
Formatted Capacity: 60 GB
Cache Buffer Size: 2000 KB

The only 60gb can match both 4.17ms and 8.7ms is the maxtor diamondmax plus 60. Does it mean we are going to get a Maxtor?

Smoking deal. Unfortunately I own this drive already AND a few Seagate Barracuda IV's. The IV's have spoiled all other so called quiet drives. :) :-(

Just placed my order. Finally can get rid of this 8GB hard drive I've used forever. Funny thing is, I haven't been able to fill up the 8GB drive, much less this 60GB monster I just ordered. Oh well.

I apologize for the blank post. Does anyone know if this drive is ATA 66, 100, 133? It indicates its ATA, but what ATA?

I bit... and damn did I bite hard.

Been looking for a couple 60 giggers, but I was gonna go with two maxtor 5400 rpm drives from newegg, but for the 7 bucks more from dell, I caved and got what I really wanted... 7200 rpm drives. They're going to a raid server... :)

Anyway... I just instead of adding the 11 bucks of stuff added a second drive... get coupon and % off... total was 197 something... good deal. :)

Sounds like a good deal to me, I just ordered one and got my confirmation within 10 minutes also...
I chose to go with a power strip to round that price out, never seem to have enough.

Even with the tax I have to pay for living in Texas with Dell the whole shebang (power strip included)
only came to $108.41...only $21.94 more than I would have paid to have the 20 gig version shipped
from mwave.com (assuming this is the WD 60BB, which I'm seriously hoping) and I get the power
strip to.

It seems that the reason this drive has been so discounted is that Dell has stopped offering a 60GB
configuration on their desktops...the drive's description says it goes with the Dimension LXXX and no
computer in the Dimension line offers a 60GB option, according to their site.

Only downside is the mystery of the manufacturer. Also, it lists a ship date of Jan. 3...is that the date
it ships from them or arrives to me? If it is the latter, that's not terrible (holidays and all), but if the
former...that really bites.

Thanks a ton for posting,

Fed

I just put my order in, I'll wait and see if my confirmation email comes in or not; This is a great deal for a mid-capacity drive, I'm not quite so picky about my drives, as long as it isn't one of the IBM 75GXP models...I've had 2 of the 'bad' models RMA'd, and I said never again..Bad luck or no.

Thanks for the heads up!

(Edit: I just recieved my confirmation right after I posted this previously. :) )

And, it does show up as a ship on or before January 3, 2002...We'll see how this progresses. :)

someone said it was Western Digital rebadged. As to the shipping date, sometimes you get it much sooner, sometimes
much later. my experience with dell is that if it is in stock (which you will never know when large number of orders made in short time),
you will get it before the estimate delivery time.

wouldn't it have been cheaper if you bought the two drives on seperate orders? 97 + 97 < 197.. + you get 22 dollars in free crap. :p

Sweet deal! :)

I guess the only downside is that we don't know what brand HDD we would get until we receive it.
