I got my 880 in today, like Rockhammer's, it wasn't in a retail box but everything else was there. I had to go the Nikon web and get the latest drivers before WinME could DL the pics. So far everything looks great.

Accessories for sale from an e-mail I received from Izzy at Adorama.

You must call him and mention promotion #19215

1. 256mb compact flash card $99.95
2. Digi-T kit (telescope adapter) $65.00 also price break on other kits (ask Izzy)
3. 4 AA Nimh rechargeable batteries with battery charger $15.95 (for 990 and C3040)
4. Extra Rechargeable battery for coolpix 880 $26.00
5. Kenko Lens bundle .5 Wide Angle and 2X telephoto lenses with 37mm tiffen adapter. $78.95

I wouldn't recommend the Kenkos...Several users on Usenet have complained about vignetting
and edge softness. The Kenkos are designed for video cameras.
Buy a lens designed for digital cameras.

If you bought into the 990 deal, don't believe the order status on Adorama's website. I called this morning, and although my order still says "Pending" online, it shipped yesterday.

I have a Kenko 2X lens for my Cybershot... it's okay but it appears to degrade the quality a bit. It seems to lower the amount of light in the picture quite a bit, you may be able to modify some settings on yours to compensate for this. Their accessories aren't overpriced at all, damn I wish I would have gotten the 880 or at least not had my 3040 destroyed in a freak shipping accident. Sigh.

Thank you, Cybernaut!

The camera arrived yesterday, just as everyone else is describing. My main concern was the loud clicking noise of the autofocus, but after talking to other 880 owners, I'm finding that it's possibly the norm.

The camera made a great birthday gift for my wife- I only wish I had seen the lens deal when I ordered!

I got my Coolpix 990 today! :) It came with cables, a 16MB CF card, a case, a strap, the software and manuals, and batteries, but not rechargeable batteries, and no charger. Anyway, no scratches on the body or lens. The thing seems to be in great condition.

Can anyone verify that the Adorama ad said it was going to come with a charger? I could have sworn... now I'm kicking myself for not printing it out before it went away.

Woo hoo!

Wiggleswoo: Nope, no charger included. I am awaiting my 990 today!! I bought the Maha quick charger and 8 1800MHA batteries from a highly recommended Canadian on Ebay for under $50 shipped. Search the forums here for MAHA and you'll find tons of good info.

Thomas Distributing has the Maha charger and batteries... it might be a little more than Ebay (a couple bucks), but for those who don't like Ebay it's the way to go.

I got a set of Panasonic 1600mah at BJ's for $24.99 that included 6 AA's and 2 AAA's and a 5 hour charger and C and D size adapters (the AA battery slides into these adapters, pretty cool for those times when you don't have C's or D's laying around).

Then I bought another 6 AA's pack for $12.99. So I have 3 sets for the camera all for under $40.00

NO UPS yet! bummer I saw a UPS truck got a woody then he passed me by...

Anyways once again MONSTER 1800 batteries are Phat I use only two in my lil Sony P20 and they last quite awhile Crap USA/BB/CC B&M's all carry them $39 for 4 batteries and a charger that charges AAA also. nice package I'd say for top performance. Once I get my C3040 I'll proabably grab another 4 AA MONSTER's for back up they are $20.

Also I saw SM 128 cards at Newegg for like $42 shipped that is a great price! I just got a 64mb SM for $33 inc tax at Crap USA's %20 off sale last week.

C'mon UPS man in Brown come to my DOOR! bring me my cameras!

Did anyone notice that the C700 Olympus 2.1MP 10X optical zoom refurb is still availible @ Adorama. VERY nice camera at $299. What a ZOOM!

Yes, it was supposed to come with nimh batteries and a charger. I was trying to print that when I found out my printer had died. I do have the web page cache though.
I was going to get the coolpix 990 but I backed out when I found out it was terrible in low light. I have the problem with my current camera and needed one with a good low light lens. Unfortunately the C3040 was sold out already.

Just got off the phone with Adorama for about the 12th time this week! The customer service person told me that they would ship out a charger and batteries and I'd get them in about a week. For some reason, I'm not sure I trust this... This company seems slightly sketchy to me, and I'm guessing I'll never see my charger and batteries. Who knows. In any event, I'll check on it in a few days.

Thanks for the tip on Thomas distributing. Seems like they have decent prices. There's even a question in the FAQ specifically about the Coolpix 990! If I don't get my batteries and charger from Adorama, I'll probably buy from them.

Is it just me, or is everybody starting to think that Cybernaut and Izzy are one and the same. This guy is seems to be just TOO connected Adorama.

In any case, it's still a good deal.

Anyone else have a printout or cache of the page?

Having placed the original post, Izzy has been keeping me up to date
regarding updates and availability. Of course it's true we were twins separated at
birth and grew up as orphans raised by monkeys but were recently re-united
on a Television talk show. A very emotional moment. If you'll buy that you'll
probably buy one of these cameras. :)

I printed the 990 web page ad that said NiMH batteries and charger included (my Anandtech training gets the credit)! :) I'm going to call them and see if they'll send them too. Maybe if we all call, they'll just send us them. If not I still have the page to scan.

"Comes with 16Mb Compactflash memory card, 4 x NiMHrechargeable batteries and charger as standard"

I'm liking the pictures this thing takes. ;)

Callled this am. Iggy didn't want to make good on the batteries and charger. He said it was a mistake and the refurb didn't come with batteries and charger, just alkalines. I already have a charger and got the camera case and a smoking deal, so I didn't push it. He wanted to sell me batteries and a charger but I passed on that.

Damn I've had nothing but bad luck with this deal. They sent me a tracking number 2 days ago, but according to UPS they've never picked up anything yet. Where's my camera!

Cybernaut, use your pull with Izzy to find out what the hell is going on over there :)
