I think worms was just being facetious. Many of the camera stores in NYC appear to be fronts. They sell gray-market merchandise, products destined for export sold here with no warrantee. When you walk into one of these stores, you are either immediately accosted by the high-pressure salespeople or completely ignored. Nothing has a price on it. When you ask, the guy will think for a second, size you up, then make up a price. On one occasion I was looking for a new lens, and it varied from by $300 depending on which store I walked into. Not knowing the actual value, I stayed away.

Hi All,

We're having a good run on this deal but I've been informed
by Izzy at Adorama that demand is exceeding supply on their Website.
He suggests placing your order by phone to confirm it's in stock.

The Olympus C3040 is OOS

check my original post for contact info...

I've heard too many complaints about the Nikon 990 so I cancelled my order and I guess I'll wait for the C3040 to drop in price or for them to get more refurbs. :(

Freejack2 -

Did you hear too many complaints about the quality of the 990 or problems with order fulfillment from Adorama?

Quality, broken parts, does badly in low light conditions. I wanted to be able to take decent night shots which the 990 can't do. Basically the impression I get is it's not a lot of an improvement over my Kodak DC280.

Saw they had the 880 back on the site but when I called I finally got an explaination. Apparently they got a bunch of these cameras from some store in Manhattan that went out of business. They won't ever be getting any more of these again and they are all gone. So this is a dead deal. Guess I'll stay with my DC280 for now.

I had bought an 880 about 3 months ago. I returned it within a week of getting it. Although the reviews I had read at that time about 880 sounded good, I didn't find it to be even close to what I would expect from a 3+ MP digicam.

It takes bad low light pictures. To cut the costs, the camera isn't even covered with anti-reflex coating. Most cameras aren't, but I would expect atleast this much for the price. Even the Bright day-light pictures seemed to be a little off i.e. the colors were a bit unreal compared to a 35 mm. Even my friend's Fuji 2400 (which is just 2.1 MP) produced better results. Nikon generally makes great cameras, but the 880 was certainly a disappointment.

According to UPS tracking my Coolpix 880 should be on the doorstep
tomorrow. After reading some more user reviews on-line a good tip
that was mentioned is to be sure to take off the lens cap on the 880
before powering up. Otherwise the lens trys to extend and can't due
to the cap and you'll hear a very disheartening grinding noise...

Has anyone's 990 shipped yet? I'm paranoid that they're going to tell me they're out of stock, even after I ordered.

Smoking Joker...I have to disagree.

I've had the coolpix 880 for over a year now, and its the best digital camera I've used by far. The camera is very complicated and the battery life sucks and there are a host of other little things people keep bringing up. If you want a "point and shoot" digital, this is not the right camera for you.

The manual is like an encyclopedia, but if you read the whole thing, you realize how powerful the camera is. There are over 20 individual settings when you take pics. Low light pics come out fantastic (and sounds weird, but it comes out better without flash-but the shutter is open longer so have a tripod or a steady hand, and a slow moving object) and bright images are also easily compensated. It took my about 1 week to become comfortable with the camera, 2 weeks to become really at ease. I think u guys can buy great cameras, but for 200-300 bucks, you can't go wrong. I paid $700 for mine (bought it when it first came out) and I don't regret it. Took it to italy and all over the country. Has taken lots of abuse and still works great. Get a case though people, the LCD in the back scratches. And if you get a rechargable battery, the short battery life is a non issue. Have fun with the camera. You will not regret it.

are people getting email saying their order has been cancelled?
I didn't get any notification, besides the order confirmation. No shipping confirmation or anything.

I placed my order on April 20...

ETAN (and others)

This is just speculation, but I'm guessing that if you placed an order online it is being cancelled. I ordered a C3040 last Friday (online) and called to verify if they were in stock. The guy on the phone said "Yup, I've got 34 of them". So I thought I was golden.
I called on Monday morning to talk to Izzy about adding some batteries to my order and he informed me that my order was cancelled and anybody who contacted him directly got one. I was able to change to a 990 since they still had a couple of those. I received my shipping notice Monday afternoon.

So basically if you ordered online, call Izzy to see if your order went through. But if I was a bettin' man, I would say your screwed.

My 990 arrives Thursday by ups 3 day select. Three pounds. If I don't like it, it goes back. I expect it'll be some work to learn to use it. I plan to take a take a photo class at the community college or read a book. For $300, it seems like a lot of camera, but we'll see.;)

Edit: The 990 arrived a day early! Instead of 4 nimh batteries and a charger as advertised, I got alkaline batteries and no charger. However a camera case was enclosed! All the other junk too: 16 Lexar compactflash, 90 warranty from Nikon, software, strap, lens cap, books software, cables, etc. Seems to work fine. :)

Just got off the phone with Adorama about my 990 -

The guy said that my order (placed on Apr. 21, 11PM) looks like it will be going through and that a camera has been reserved for me. He said if it doesn't ship today, it won't ship at all. Crossing my fingers!

Anyone else have any news on their order status?

Received the 880 today. Everything as advertised.
Lots of good documentation. Setup the camera in
just a few minutes. Camera appears to be in new condition.
No scratches on the screen or body.

It's been mentioned that it's best to call in your order for
these cameras. At this point I don't believe they have any
of these left in stock (990, 880, Olympus C3040). If you
order on-line don't expect your order to go thru.

If your order does go thru you will receive an invoice e-mail
confirming shipment and a link to UPS tracking.

what came with the refurb camera? I bought 2 C3040's and just wonder what I am getting with it since I will be fleabaying one of them to make mine cheaper still :) but before I put it up for sale I need to know what is included so I guess I'll wait since it will be here Thursday. They do a good job with sending you tracking info. Izzy never got back to me about what was included by e-mail though 2 days no answer. Guess they busy making money. It is good to know that your camera came in good shape though that is reassuring:p

once again I talked to Izzy @ 1PM EST Friday and there was 1 left after I bought my 2 C3040's so If you got one of those over the weekend you're probably gonna get ganked:(

I ordered the 3040 on Friday morning over the PHONE and I was told they had them in stock. I called today for a tracking number (I received a order comfirmation Friday but not a tracking number). Now I'm being told that they are sold out and I didn't get one. So from my experience... calling and placing the order didn't mean you got one. Bastards! Scratch them off my list of companies to deal with.

Did you get a tracking number for yours?

The scoop I got (which I take with a grain of salt) is that upon going to ship many of them they discovered that the 6 Olympus C-3040 of the cameras they had (6 to a box) were crushed by an elevator. So he said 6 people aren't getting them that thought they were.

The whole thing stinks if you ask me... I went out and bought batteries and memory for the thing in hopes that it would be here today... now I learn I most likely won't even get one.

If you *think* you got one, but haven't received a tracking number then you may want to call because you may find yourself in my shoes.

Got my 880 today! It was not in a retail box, but it is complete with all manuals and reference sheets and software. The camera itself looks brand new. I'm very pleased with the deal.
