Dead. The $138 was just through yesterday... Looks like they coded in the free shipping a day early. Heh.
 
pretty funny if you look at the 10 or 12" cheap subs they rack you 15 bucks extra shipping due to it's size and weight ... I'd say that's respectable but if you check out the 15" sub it's free shipping. Ah well gotta make the cash some place I guess.
 
hey mshan, do you have any links to discussions on this sub? ive found a couple but they are somewhat dated. just looking for reviews, etc.

Parts Express Customer from Unknown Location
For the $160 sale price I got it at it performed very well, but at the full $300 tag it faces some stiff competition.

One defective item aside(which PE handled very well): I had the opportunity to audition this alongside a KRK 10S in a small treated studio control room (15x10x9 or so). Even though the Rokit has a stated frequency response of 34-150hz compared to the Hsu10's 25hz extension, it actually had much higher output in the 20-30hz range, and sounded drastically tighter and more musical across the board to both myself and the studio engineer. The 10S goes for $299 most places, which leads me to believe you will find better subs than the Hsu10 for that price."
 
Unfortunately not.

A google search for something like Dayton Hsu might be productive, though. Outlaw Audio also sells a Hsu designed sub.

I am guessing major difference between these subs and real Hsu product is how much cost cutting has caused these other manufacturers to substitute lower quality parts from the Hsu reference design.

Probably sounds like a Hsu in general, but coarser in sound quality and ultimate spl / low frequency extension (?). Plus don't know how reliability differs.

I previously bought Dayton speakers from parts express for a surround sound system. Once calibrated, it rocked the house. I was very happy with them, after previously using other moderately high end speakers. Dayton is usually reviewed as good quality bang for your buck speakers (and I don't have any connection to either company).

Also, if anyone audio inclined hasn't checked the avsforum.com (link in message above), it is a great forum for all things audio-visual.
 
dayton makes some very good stuff. their titanic line is even popular with car audio guys.

definately was a hot deal, you can't buy the speaker and amp seperately for that, let alone the cabinet + shipping.
