(DEAD) D-Link Cable Modem DCM-200 $49.95 AR at outpost.com

Good price, been waiting for these lousy cable modems to come down in price...This should work with comcast since it says it is @home certified and comcast used @ home...I'm gonna call them and see if it is compatible.

My ISP said to check CableLabs to see which cable modems are compatible with their service. You can try to ask your ISP to see if this is applicable for you when cable modem shopping....

It's CableLabs approved, DOCSIS 1.1 upgradeable, compatible with ATT and Cox at least, 5 year warranty. Good deal.

Hey, thanks for the deal... I had a Linksys on order with Amazon for $89 -- cancelled that to get this one.

Shipping was $5.71 for me - $85 less $30 = $55!

GOOD NEWS, PEOPLE THIS CABLE MODEM DOES WORK WITH COMCAST. I just got mine from Best Buy for 109 - 30 MIR (pretty solid deal under the circumstances), I had to get it fast, the guy was going to be at my house in about 2 hours to install it. DO A SEARCH! Having trouble getting it to work with my new XP Pro box, just started today, check my other thread for updates.

Why does comcast always screw with me! Last time I bought me a 3com modem and they were like it will work if it is DOCSIS(or whatever), and it was, but then when I try to get them to set it up on their end, they were like we will never support this modem. Dumb *&%&#.... I had to freaking send the thing back and it took all sorts of whiles to get my money back! Freaking Comcast.... Sorry for the rant, but they just make me:|

So once I get this modem I just call ATTbi and they will change the settings for me, then I return their old modem, and I get $10 off my monthly bill? Ok this is what the customer service with att told me:

In-Sarah says, You need to hook up the new modem for the registration of the modem online and it will be ready to work.
In-Sarah says, You need to get the modem registered from "sas.rx.attbi.com"
In-Sarah says, Please reboot the computer and powercycle the modem.
In-Sarah says, Registeration code is the last nine digits of your ATTBI's account number.
In-Sarah says, You may experience up to 30 minutes of downtime upon registration.
In-Sarah says, There is a one time $9.95 modem activation fee. This charge applies to the cost of activating the purchased modem on our system. Prices are exclusive of any applicable franchise fees, regulatory fees, taxes and other franchise related fees.
In-Sarah says, The leased modem needs to be returned back to AT&T. A technician visit can be scheduled to pick up the leased modem at a cost of $49
.95.

jairocon,

So just to confirm, ATTbi support this moderm, correct? and WTF are they charging $49 to pick up the leased moderm....Thats way too much man.... Anyways, if ATT support this, I think I might pick one up for myself too 🙂

It's a change of service type fee. I don't know of a utility that doesn't charge a fee to either start or modify a service.

About that SAS address above, unless the x in "rx" was meant generically, this address may vary from area to area. The rx address isn't valid in my area, for example, while the address below is, so this will be something you'll want to check indivudually.

Re AT&T Broadband:

You can switch out the modem without actually talking to anyone. Go to the AT&T Help site and click the "Chat with us" link. Choose "Product Support" and start a chat session. Tell the rep you want to provision a new modem and give him all the info requested -- account no, serial no. of modem, etc. They will tell you to turn everything off and switch out the modem. It takes 15-30 minutes and you are done.

The $9.95 modem activation charge is relatively new. They weren't charging anything last summer when they sent out the "purchase your own modem" offers. The $49.95 is only charged if they have to come and get your modem. You can turn it into any AT&T customer service office and avoid that. Be sure to get a receipt for the modem if you go that route.

Sweet. Just signed up for ATTBI service in Chicago. They recommended I get my own modem anyway.

This D-Link D200 is supported for ATTBI users.

I just called ATTBI and asked if there was any sort of charge at all to switch over to my own modem and they said "no." I'm going to hold them to that and dispute charges if they try to slip something into my bill.

Awesome..was just talkin about this the other day with friends. Hope the rebate comes through. Going to be using it with ATTBI here in Pittsburgh.

Anyone know if the Best Buy $20 instant rebate is still going on? I think it ended 3/9. If BB would pricematch this, it would drop it down to 29.99 +Shipping.

😀

Like most service fees from companies, the $9.95 charge to activate your new modem is nothing but an attempt by them to make money. The most they would have to do is type in your new MAC address in the system. If they are having you go to a web page to activate though, I would bet almost certainly that the whole process is automatic.
