Um, the absolute minimum amount people paid were 190+tax, which is like pretty close to $200, PLUS they have to ship it to you? Why wouldn't they just return it? Plus this isn't the right forum anyway, go to FS please.

Good thing I didn't buy that card! I saw some on Ebay (or was it Amazon?).

Exman:

Ahhh dude.... I used all the coupons I could find and I still had to pay $205.61 after tax. So you want people to subsidize your camera habit?

I've noticed that the Vivitar is VERY picky about media. When I format a card as FAT under Windows 2000 using my USB-to-CompactFlash adapter, the card becomes UNUSABLE and UNFORMATABLE from within the Vivitar.

Interestingly, the same card works fine on my CoolPix 800. If I format this "defective" card in my Nikon, the card can magically be used by the Vivitar.

Anyhow, Very annoying. I'll have to figure out another way to revive my card once I sell my Nikon.

What do you mean Vivitar can use it?
Ok, here are my problems
1-When I format under Win2000 with USB reader, and then try to format it with Vivitar it will throw an error. Try a couple of times and Vivitar will give in and format the card.

2-After I format with Vivitar I take some pics. When I go to play mode and review the pics everything is fine. When I put the card in my USB reader photoshop will complain that this file (jpg) is corrupted and unreadable.

3-If now I try to format the card under Win2000 it will say the card is locked and exit. If I reboot win2000 I can format the card again.

Any thought? Windows is not recognizing the pics stored on this card. I read the reviews for this card at newegg and there is a guy saying that this card works in his Minolta s304, while there is another one who said it doesn't work on his.

'cause you forgot about the rebate. You can't return the camera w/o UPC code :p

In WD120JB deal smb. said "If I had a job, I'd get this in a heartbeat". Well, I have a job and that's exactly the reason I was late to Staples that day. Damn, I want that camera!

EXman, I understand you ;-)

the formatting thing isn't just this camera. I formatted an 8 MB card and tried it on the DC3200 and just couldn't get it to format it, I tried like 10 times! So don't assume Vivitar sucks or whatever (pretty sure the Minolta will do the same thing then). However, the DC215 (same brand!) formatted it in one try.

Kostya17: Yeah, but EXman wants one of us to sell him a camera for $205 shipped w/ rebate intact I am pretty sure. And if you sent in the rebate, means you would want to keep it and not sell it anyway. Why in the world would anyone in his right mind buy a camera, ship it to some guy on this forum and lose money doing it?

When I format the card in Windows 2000, the card becomes unusable in the Vivitar. I have not tried to forcefully format it in the camera. (Didn't know trying multiple times would cause the camera to "give in")

However, if I take the problematic card (that refuses to work in the Vivitar) and format it in my Nikon Coolpix 800, everything is cured. The Vivitar likes it. My Win2k box likes it.

How odd.

There really ought to be another forum for this discussion !

(but, until then...)

What file system are you formatting to in Win2K?
You have the choice of:
FAT (16)
FAT32
NTFS

I don't know which Win2k does by default, but I DO know
my Kodak DC290 and HP digicams won't read anything but
FAT16. I haven't tried these tricks with my 3725 yet, but
the Vivicam DOES read/write a card taken from the HP.
(probably DOES require FAT16)

Try reformatting in Win2k again, making sure FAT
(not FAT32) is selected; OR right-click:properties in explorer
on the CF drive icon to see what the file system is in the
CF card.

I specifically format it as FAT, and still get the problem. I also think this is a nice place to discuss it, since this is the thread that those who bought the camera look at most.

Hey Yoshi, so after you format the card with your nikon you can take pics with the Vivitar, but can Win2000 read the jpgs that are stored on the card?
My problem is that it seems that Vivitar can read the pics stored in the card in play mode, but when I use my USB reader windows, photoshop, etc say the files are corrupt and unreadble. I also format as FAT......

Did IQ's just drop ?
Settle down your flames Jacks! You need to read the whole Deal before flaming makes you look like a horses A$$ :)

Ok troopers the deal is $249 -$20instant-$40 off $200 coupon-$50 rebate = $139 there is no way If somebody sells theirs to me for $205 they get a raw deal . they get a %25 profit

I DO NOT want to mess with the Rebate! Never Implied it ever. You Can Keep it! that is your profit %25 is pretty good i'd say

The person is still making $50 rebate plus a couple dollars after shipping a 3lb item cannot be more than $7priority :p

feel free to not to assume next time! I was offering a ~$50 deal to someone that is a pretty good percentage :p

Ok if you didn't use a $40 coupon it is not my fault you were too lazy to go to F*Twallet to get it.

Ok :p

I get my cameras refurbished or at Ubid and even got on the microcenter deal for %20 off which actually was a Minolta S404 almost the same camera as the 3725 just with 1 more MP. any other questions?

Now who did the deal correctly and wants to make ~$50 any more than a ~$50 deal on that camera is greedy IMHO

Or trade up to my Fuji 4900!

Flame that :D

Cheers ;)

Btw somebody already offered theirs to me :D
More More I buy yours too!

It is advisable to NEVER format a flash memory card on your pc, ALWAYS use the camera's format utility to do it. Formatting in a card reader on your pc may result in an unusable card.

Yes. EVERYTHING (reading/shooting on the Vivitar, Nikon and PC) works after reformatting a PC-formatted card on my Nikon

OK, now I'm on a quest to replace my Viv3725 firmware with MinoltaS304's.
(maybe foolishly so, as the only thing I've found lacking so far is the absence of the SHARPNESS, CONTRAST, and COLOR SAT controls in the SET-UP:CUSTOM2 menu)

DiMAGE 7 firmware upgrade instructions shows how to identify your camera's firmware (and how to upgrade it) ...

AND IT WORKS on the Vivitar 3725 !!!

The Camera ID is: "3MP_DSC".
My firmware is "D1V054u,D338"
Anybody else have anything different ?

I've seen somewhere that the S304 uses the same processing chip as the higher-end DiMAGE 5 and 7's and this seems to confirm this. It also appears that the firmware is upgradable through the same procedure IF ONLY WE CAN FIND COMPATIBLE FIRMWARE FILES SOMEWHERE !!

I DID try the upgrade procedure (without the firmware file, of course) and got an "Err" message on the top LCD after a few seconds. Then I got a scare that I had thourougly hosed my new camera, but removing batteries, and restoring DEFAULTS in the setupo menu brought things back (phew!).

I'd like to be able to RESTORE the firmware... if only there was some way to upload the existing firmware into the Compact Flash card...

so you want to buy them on the hot deals thread, and sell them on eBay? or why do you need more than one?

if so take it to the FS/FT :)
why would anyone want to give you a camera for $200, that you will turn around and sell on eBay for $40 more?

dont get defensive, just answer the question :)

He's made the same offer on FW.

I won't mention any names but asking $300 for an opening bid on ebay, come on! Geez people, you can start the auction alittle lower. At least let a person think they're getting a deal.

Well Exman, the 40 off 200 coupon came out a day after this deal was posted, so not everyone bought it the day afterwards.

And your calculations are wrong, or does everyone live in Oregon now?

$250-20-40=190+tax=200, and that's assuming they used the 40 coupon cause they were "slow" and bought it a day late.

Let's assume I were to sell you my camera, I only had the 20 off coupon on Sunday, so I paid 227 after tax, and so I will have to LOSE 30+ dollars for about 2 months and then HOPE that I get the rebate?

Plus these don't sell for too much on Ebay anyway.

hehe Ok guys you got me.... But I have nothing to Hide! I wish my staples had the 3725 but it didn't just like most of the east coasters. :p

If someone took full advantage of the deal and sold it to me got their rebate back they would do fine. No one is forcing anyone to sell them to me? and I am getting offers. So if you did not do well on the deal forget sellin to me I wouldn't do it either. no big deal. :D

if so take it to the FS/FT why would anyone want to give you a camera for $200, that you will turn around and sell on eBay for $40 more?

Cause they wanna make a fast or slow rather buck w/o the frustrations of fleabay. again no one is forcing their hand. Is it your business if someone wants to trade with me? No quite simply it is not. :)

To the lame a$$ newbie "AbacabYAB" who left me neutral heat for no reason today please come forward as I never had a deal with you and you do not give someone HEAT that you never had a transaction with. It simply is wrong. HeatWare Trading Guidelines look at #1 and the rest too I don't even know who did it cause there was no Deal! wtf were you thinking? you either do a deal or don't do it there is no grey area here. Heat is not designed for people to give an opinion on somebody for no reason at all. It is for traders DEAL not think of dealing.
I do like the term you used for me "Surly" LoL!!!! Since this person has no HEAT that did this I won't bother to sink to your level and give you illegal Heat like you did me. probably just signed up to give me a neutral and that is weak. :Q

Remember people this is a freemarket economy people are entitled to make a buck and there is no way to know how some can resell it for so if you can make $50 and feel happy about it great easy money for you! I am outta work like many out there are in this psuedo recession. I am also trying to be fair I'm not asking for the whole kit and kabootel here just a fair trade. But Fair to me might not be fair to you hence we do not trade! it is just that simple.

PS Your offers in my PM will be returned shortly I had to come here and get this straightened out...

PS #2 if anyone has been smeared by an illegal Heat know how to get it removed quickly PM me :p hehe Guess I'll be giving them an e-mail tonight.

If anyone has any more questions PM me I'm really not that "SURLY" in fact if you look at my Heat it is quite the opposite. :p
