Just picked one up at Staples B&M. Tried online and got an "out-of-stock" message. Called locally and they put one on hold for me. Manager ok'd use of the online $50 off $200 coupon.

I just ordered one. Although I think I am going to go into the store tomorrow, so I can use my $30 gift card and then get it sooner. Funny, they didn't show tax after I submitted the order. I guess they will charge it with the invoice they email.

Here's what I'm going to do: take a print-out of the Staples.com shopping cart showing the item is out-of-stock, and at the register give them the online coupon code. This should work, right? :)

a phone order might be easier if an item is OOS
because usually a CSR can place an order if it is OOS
but if the local store has it than its worth a shot

Just reordered one, I called in the order and told theCSR that in the order cancelling email I received it say to mention my old order # when I reorder because I used a coupon on my order, so the CSR just reordered from my cancelled order using all of the same info. Delivery date Feb.4.

Last time I checked (about an hour and a half back), it showed 166 remaining. So they must have just added stock.....or maybe they just want some interest free loans, and cancel orders after a couple of weeks.

Put another order in for one using a $50 coupon. Hope this one goes through. My last on-line order placed on the 20th went into limbo due to out-of-stock. Why don't they just backorder items? I picked one up at the local Staples store this weekend using a $30 coupon but if this one arrives it's going back to the store as a return. The store wouldn't accept my $50 coupon code from the online order :disgust:. Also, ordered 25 of the Ritek 4x DVD-R's from Hypermicro.com on Sunday for $48 plus $8.22 shipping (Fedex 2 day delivery). Hypermicro shipped them the next day (Monday) and they should arrive tomorrow (Wednesday) :D. My retail copy of Nero (version 5.5.5.1) doesn't recognize the burner, should I install the Nero Express that comes with the drive? Will Nero Express wipe out my full retail copy of Nero? I also have a Plextor CD burner installed, will Nero Express work with it or is it just limited to the Pioneer DVD-R? Any help is appreciated.

The rebate is base on the date of purchase not on the date of delivery. BTY: the rebate must be postmarked within 15 days of purchase.

Man am I bumbed. They don't ship to Alaska and they don't have a store in Alaska. Well maybe some store will break the drought up here. Hey I hear it's cold down there in the lower 48. Kinda muggy here at 25. Thanks for the heads up on the deal.

I've read this drive has firmware issues, and is incompatible with several brands of media. :(

I think I'm just gonna hold off and wait for some better DVD burners to come out at bargain prices. I need to save my money anyway :)

The only "issue" I have seen personally so far is, cheap media, is cheap media. Thats not the drive's fault.
Brand name 2x disks burn at 2x (go figure). Cheap generic so called 2x disks-may burn at 1x (but still work).

I just ordered a spindle of 4x...we will see...

*Edit* 25 pack of Meritline 4x arrived today (not bad for 49 shipped free 2 day ship)
They burn at 4x no problems. So still no "issues" with this drive yet. Original 1.0 firmware that came with it. 4x burning -Rocks-

Tried to order online, 50 off 200 wouldnt work. Said it was PHONE only code. So I called in. Got it for 216.xx, and then I will get the rebate and it will be 166.xx. Ordered Tuesday night, suppose to be here Thursday. Must be an easy local delivery. Store locally had two on shelf. But didnt push the 50 coupon, since I didnt even want to hassle it. So local store looses the business.

Now to put this in my Mac. And have a Superdrive, to use my iDVD and burn some family video.
