Which CenDyne dvd burner would you rather have, the -R/W or the +R/W? The price for the -R/W is $299 - $50 rebate and the +R/W is 229.99 -$50 rebate.

If they bother were the same price, which one would you buy?

I'm asking because I just ordered the -R/W for the same price as the +R/W.

I have both the Pioneer- and HP+. The media is cheaper for the - but the media that I have used for the + is a no brainer, meaning if it says 2.4x or 4x speeds it will burn at that, unlike the - media which is sensitive to the burner used. (i.e, 2x or 4x media will only burn at 1x or 2x only) I also have Apex's for the kids and I have a Pioneer and Toshiba and both the + and - play with no problems.

How many times are you going to ask that:p

I would go for the +r/w just because it will more likely be compatible with home dvd players and it has the potential to burn faster and +r/w has a better error protection mechenism built it.

i dont think the + will be more compatible but the other points are true

it is easy to find dvd players that will support both at no extra cost so compatability is not really an issue

If I bought a Cendyne DVD-RW Burner before with the Rebate,

Can I purchase the Cendyne DVD+RW and Cendyne Internal 52X CDRW and get their rebates too?

Help would be appreciated, thanks.

Yes, as they are different units, with different dated rebates.

Didn't find this on the forums so I'll post my question here:

I've been trying to find information on the NEC ND-1100A, which supposedly this drive is repackaged as. And all I can find is that the NEC ND-1100A is a dual -/+R/RW.

So if this is the same drive, yet it is locked at +R/RW, is there a firmware upgrade or something to make it dual capatable? Or am I just dreaming?

EDIT: The -/+ drive was renumbered the ND-1300A to avoid confusion. Found it at CD Freaks. No firmware upgrade for ND-1100A to make it a 1300.

EDIT #2: It may be possible to hack/flash the ND-1100A to a ND-1300A after all...check out this link.

If that is true, hmmm. Is anyone willing to try to hack the drive?

That's just a internet rumor caused by NEC renaming the drive.
(Note for NEC ND-1100: This is the OEM typenumber of the ND-1090, the drives are identical. Initially, model number ND-1100 was assigned to multi-format drive, this is now called ND-1300.)

Right, but if this drive is the ND-1100A then the possibility exists. I suppose I could search and see if another drive has been named or renamed ND-1100A but wouldn't they retire that # instead, to avoid confusion? Particularly with their rebadgers/resellers.

By the way, thanks for the deal. Got the drive and the discs :D

As much as I probably don't need this, if it can be hacked into the dual format one, i'm in.

I noticed that too, from the link in the main post for the NEC specifications. This could get interesting...

All that means is that it can read DVD-R and DVD-RW discs, most DVD+ drive can do that.

Thanks MysticMan, ordered 5/19, expected delivery 5/20. I'll cancel my Lite-on drive from dell, its already been delayed twice. Kinda like when I got the Sony DRU500a from dell and they delayed it 4 months and then finally cancelled my order...anyways, I'm finally gonna get a burner!

Thanks for the hot deal!!! Seemed to me that the + is a better deal. The only drawback from what other people posted is the media may be a bit more expensive, but if you are burning that many dvd's you probably don't need to use rw's so the cost shouldn't be a big deal?

i bought the + one, media is more but it'll go down. gonna replace the ricoh 5125 i just bought with it. haha

microsoft is behind the + in the next windows. and dell, compaq and hp bundle + drives with their machines. seems to me the issue is going to be decided soon in the marketplace.

From the manual:
Write Speed and Transfer Rate
A)DVD-R Media (4x/2x/1x)
list of compatible media Mitsubishi, etc.
B) DVD-RW Media (2x/1x)
comp. media
C)DVD+R Media (4x/2.4x)
comp. media
D)DVD+RW Media (2.4x)
Other references to writing on all 4 types of media are in the manual. Can't cut and paste. So I hope...and you can too :clock:
