check out prices at www.rima.com they are a good store to order from. www.meritline.com also, but people have complained about them before (i've never ordered from them).

but it does cost more for + media currently. wait a while, prices shouldl equalize soon enough, +R media is ramping up production. but this is why i got theh -r, only cuz PCCLUB always has good media for $1, sometimes $40 for $50. if media price is a concern, wait for a -R drive deal, mysticman always comes through when there's a deal.

#1: You can always not use a coupon and pay $50 more and no one will try to stop you from doing that. :p #2: What do you mean by we  have you ever posted any deal? real or not.

Well - if there's no $50 coupon left - the price awfully is getting close to some of the universal 4x drives deal.

Anyone that lets you use a 7-digit coupon without asking for said proof is obviously just being lax on their responsibilities, and that is what makes the coupon VERY YMMV.

they use five digit and 16 digit codes, try putting in a 7 digit code a staples, you get the big Ooops message.

I'm just posting to say thanks for the links;)

I picked up the NEC drive from a dell system I ordered and then resold to a friend. Total price of the drive, $80 :D

Now if only the media would come down in price:(

hehe nm i found it shortly after i made the post.

however being such a cheapskate that i am i kinda backed out on the ATP3... it may sound nice (i have a set of AVS300, 2.1 cheapo from altec lansing), but it ain't 5.1 setup which i would love. guess i'll wait for a sale on the Z640's?

For some reason, the only email coupon i had from Staples was $30 off $150, and that expired on 5/16. Dang it...

I'll check with my sister and see if she has a decent coupon from her email.

The advantage of the DVD- drives is that the media is currently cheaper than the media for the DVD- drives, but that not a big advantage unless you are going to burn lots of discs every month.

The advantage of the DVD + drives are :

...you have the unique advantage of lossless linking, allowing you to replace parts of a disc without the need of rewriting the entire contents
...you can use the DVD-Video compatible DVD+VR format, allowing you to make changes directly on the recorded disc
...you have the advantage of defect-management during writing, for a more robust performance and less writing errors
...you are better protected against shocks during writing, since the exact location can be found even during recording
...you can immediately start recording to a disc, as formatting takes place in the background
...you can optionally use all the benefits of Mount Rainier (EasyWrite) drag-'n-drop support
...you can optionally write discs in CAV mode, enabling for much higher performance in data applications
Compatibility with DVD-ROM drives and DVD-Video players
Direct On-disc editing of video recordings using suitbale software, no need to transfer to harddrive first
No manual formatting or finalization required for DVD+RW discs
Full random access support for powerful data storage applications
4x DVD+RW is the fastest rewritable technology around
One disc for video/data
Fully supported by Microsoft - Mt. Rainier capable

Update: The price has now been updated to $229.99,

Staples usually updates there web site around 6:00 AM est. If you can't wait you can always place a order now then call Staples to have the price adjusted, but they can't do it between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM because the system will be off line.

Thanks Mysticman, you always help find great deals. I just ordered one came out to about $195 with tax, than I get a $50 mail in rebate. The only problem I'll have is finding media.

Grab the Fuji's 2.4x when they are on sale at BB, about 1.20 each after rebate or grab the 100 pack spindle of TDK 4x, 189.00 + tax. I use them both and they burn at the advertised speed and play flawless.

BTW, I am still waiting on a $50 Cendyne rebate bougth at Staples in early Jan and one from OM in early Feb. Staples is giving me nothing but trouble (Twice I have sent in copies and faxed them once) and the OM has been approved waiting for check. Staples has botched 2 of the last 5 rebates I have sent in. The other one has been corrected after resubmitting but the Cendyne one is an ongoing battle.

Regardless, if you can wait for the rebate (make sure you have COPIES) this is one outstanding burner. I have the same one which is a HP 300i (Nec1100a).

They work excellent. I should know, I have done about 100+ with them and have never had a bad burn or error or worse yet, pixelation. :)
