So far poeple who own the CenDyne 32x drive have identified the rebadged mfgs as Lite-on, verbatim (Rebadged Lite-ons), Mitsumi (16MB Buffer, supports the 'Mt. Rainier' format), AOpen (reads at 48x, 8MB Buffer) and a new one the OptoRite.

To identify which rebadged drive is in the Cendyne box look at the serials # on the top right label at the back of the box and the model number on the newer boxes.

Lite-on 32x mfg drive have 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012), Model #LTR-32123S or the newer mfg (overclockable) #LTR-32123W.
Verbatim 32x mfg drive have (rebadged Lite-on drives) 12 digits, no letters - Sample (123456789012), Model #VBT321240A
Mitsumi 32x drives have 22 digits mostly numbers -Sample (CR-123ATE45678A12QH9012), Model #CR-480ATE. Also says 16BM buffer on the box.
AOpen 32x drives have 23 digits mostly numbers with three letters near the end -Sample (123D1234567890123JED1), Model #CRW3248
New! OptoRite 32x Model #CW3201

CenDyne has posted a firmware updates (X8S6) for the Verbatim mfg drives, so there's no need to flash the Verbatim to a LiteOn just to update the firmware. Link to CenDyne/Verbatim updates

I hate waiting for rebates, but since no one will sell me their older 12x or 16x drive for my girlfriend's PC, maybe I'll go for it.

Thanks.

it says its $129.99 on the site, so on the 23rd, it'll drop to 109.99 + 30 IR? So thats 79.99 out the door w/o coupons?

I just got a look at the ad for next week and these's no instant rebate, the price will be $79.99 before the $40 mail-in rebate and whatever coupon you choose to use. The $10 off $50 OfficeMax printable coupon expires (Sun.) the day the sale starts, the Staples $15 off $75 printable coupon expires 6-29 (OfficeMax is support to except coupons from Staples) or you can order on-line and add some FREE after rebate items to reach $100 and use a $25 off $100 OfficeMax coupon = $14.99.

What burning software comes with these Cendyne's? Nero? Also, is the Nero that comes with these drives a stripped down version ? Just curious, thanks....

geez - every time a turn around this drive gets cheaper - 45 then 35 then 30, and now maybe 25 or even 15 ?!? Well anyway if you are considering buying this drive go for it. Ive had nothing but good experiences with it (lite-on version).

My 12X10X32 Burner works fine for me.....but $15 for a 32x?? MAN!! Someone convince me why I shouldn't get this drive!!!
Btw, if I get this drive, inevitably I will also have to upgrade my DVD-ROM (it's only a 12X)........any hot deal on this?

Btw, why Staples coupon? Isn't this an officemax deal?

Officemax takes competitor coupons. Ex: Staples, office depot, etc.

But this is only B$M policy right? Can I do this online?

For those of us who don't have time to read the reviews at the moment, can someone perhaps give an "executive summary" of which manufacturer to try to get first, second, third, avoid?

B&M only, correct. I do it all the time at officemax, i've never had a problem. Just use a legit coupon from staples. I personally will just be ordering this online with the $25 off 100. Coupon can be found at FW.

I bought one from Office Max a month ago and got the Lite-on version of the 32x burner. A most excellent upgrade from my old 8x Smart & Friendly burner... burning a full 80 minute cd went from 12 minutes to less than 4 minutes (and this is only burning at 24x cuz of my crappy media).

Is there anyway to tell which drive is inside by looking at the outside of the box? Ie, look at the label to see weather is has "burnproof" or "smartburn" etc? I really want a Lite-on...

I'd go for the 25 off 100 coupon with free after rebate stuff but most rebates require an original reciept. Does anyone know what free after rebate items don't require an original reciept?

To use a competitor coupons on-line you need to phone-in your order and they will ask you to fax them a copy of the coupon and want to use.
