CenDyne 24x10x40, $119.99 - $40 rebate - $25 coupon (applies only towards your first order) = $54.99 at OfficeMax starting Sun 2-3

link to in-store ad

Link to $40 rebate

The CenDyne 24x10x40 drive is not on their web site (the drive is a discontinued item), this is a in-store or call in only deal. So, What I would do is print-out the page with a $25 off $100 coupon on it, and take that to your local store, and tell your one of those friendly OfficeMax manages that you were going to buy the drive on-line, but you couldn't fine it, and would he (or she) honor the $25 coupon, so you can purchase the drive from him or her. Or just say they are out of stock on-line (and hope he dosen't check), and would he honor the $25 coupon. This has worked before, for a number of poeple, but it up the to manage to decide to honor the $25 coupon or not.

You try calling your order at 800-283-7674. option 1, item #2007-6846, tell them you wanted to order on-line, but couldn't fine it on the web site. Use the coupon code #???? to receive the $25 off $100 discount. If you are asked where you got the coupon code , say it was mailed to you by OfficeMax. Since this item is discontinued it may be out of stock in all area. Good luck.

The CenDyne 24x10x40 drives that people have been receiving are mfg by Lite-on, TEAC, AOpen or verbatim (rebagded Lite-on). And lately some people have received Acer CRW 2410A CD-ReWriter drives.

Still haven't seen this drive at OfficeMax.com. Don't know if they will put it in or not.

If this is fo realz, than it's even a better deal than the OM deal earlier. Which was with a 20 dollar rebate. Picked up 3 last time, but they were all for components for other people. I'll finally get one for myself! Thanks for the heads up mystic!

Shiggy101 -

There is a $25 off 100 coupon for OM at dealcatcher.com. It appears to be valid for everyone (not just first time buyers).

I picked up the $50 Cendyne 16x a few weeks ago, got some free after MIR software, and paid $25 out of pocket.

BTW: As long as we don't post the actual codes, is it okay to reference coupon sites in the forums? If so I'll edit this post.

Is this $25 coupon only for online purchases? If so how do you guys go about getting it honored at B&M stores? Stores around here are by the book as far as any kind of coupon or price matching.

Any way to tell which drive you will get when you buy this (anything on the outside of the box that identifies it)? I want a way to identify the Lite-on drive.

If it says Smart-Burn anywhere on the box it should be a Lite-on drive inside. If a has a "PC World Top 10 CDRW" sticker no it, it's most likely is a AOpen drive. I don't know what the identifier for the TEAC drive is.

($40 rebate...
I am little worry

who/where is the rebate fullfillment house ?

When OfficeMax offered the CenDyne CD-RW deal with a $20 rebate two week ago, the rebate was handle by Parago, the same company that handles rebate for Staples, and I have always received my rebate from them. Also, you can track the progress of you rebate on their web site at RebateHQ.com, if they use the same company.

I got in on this deal last time and received the TEAC drive. It had the top-10 sticker. Serial number was 002-1234567 format. I believe the Lite-ons just have one number, no dash. Don't know what the Aopen has.

aopen is also one number, no dashes. but much longer than lite-on. lite-on is something like 10 digits, aopen is something like 16 digits. also, the pc world sticker isn't a sure thing, it has been on both lite-on and non lite-on boxes. the smartburn shown on the big white specs sticker on the back definitely indicates a lite-on, but you can doublecheck with the serial number.

The AOPEN drive is the only drive that can backup these new copy-protected MUSIC CD's. The Lite-on and TEAC fail. Something to think about..

Two week ago when this CenDyne drive was on sell, it was available on-line for the same price as in the OM stores.

But the Aopen does not back up safedisc 2... that's more important to me than a few music CD's that can't be backed up.

The only rebate that I see is the $20 one that expires today.

(Generally all Office Max Rebates can be found here, on their website.)

***UPDATE***

Went into Office Max a day early to look at this deal. Brought a copy of the $25 off $100 from the OM website.

Manager said he would knock $25 off any burner I wanted, took me into the back to look at the ones they had. The newer drives appeared to be in blue boxes as pictured in the ad, had a 12 digital serial number (230136005xxx) and said "smart burn" on the back. Said if the drive wasn't the one I was looking for they would exchange it or take it back... opened the box and bingo, it's a 24X Lite-on manufactured in Sept 2001. Comes with Nero 5.5.

He said he couldn't do the rebate as it didn't kick in till Sunday, but knocked the price of the drive down to $69 for me, said why hassle with a MIR? :)

Now if someone posts the rebate form I'll try for the rebate anyway, wouldn't that be a hot deal, Lite-on 24X for $29? :)

This was in the Highlands Ranch, Colorado store... definitely surprised the heck out of me, usually they refuse to do any kind of pricematching.

Manager was definitely in the "let's make a deal" mood... they have 2 or 3 more of these if anyone is in Colorado and wants to try this same store... I'm sure he'd like to have some stock for when the ad actually hits though.

Just used CloneCD to make a backup copy of return to castle wolfenstein... went super fast, the whole thing copied in just a few minutes... no problems playing the game with the backup either, this drive rocks!! I think I like it even better than my 12X Plexwriter.
