No i bought it for $99.00, But also ordered online for the $25.00 credit. I will return the one shipped if not lite-on and get my $99.00 back. If lite-on i will keep!

Missed it on the web, but called and ordered one that way.

I also, for insurance, picked one up at the store, but I forgot :I that the serial number was on the outside, and so only noticed it was an Acer when I got home. D'oh!

So I called back, and they said they had several left with the 12-digit, purely numeric serial (Lite-On). I requested that they hold two of them, and then drove down. It turns out they were the less price-appealing 32X burners that they held, but since it was their mistake, they gave me the 24X price! :^) No coupons, but still a good deal. :)

Remember: you can call the local OM and ask if any of the 24X drives have a 12-digit serial, and then request that they hold one. Save yourself some time.

It is off the web. So I called the CSR and ordered one, and she allowed me to use the 25 off 100 coupon. it will be delievered on 3/19. Hope I can get a lite-on. I asked the CSR in case I don't like it, she said I can return to local store or send somebody to pick it up. I also checked the local storein my area, they have some drives labeled Verbatim which is actually a rebadaged Lite-on drive. So if the drive I get is not a lite-on, I am going to exchange it at my local store. For less than $39, it's truely a great deal. Thanks for head up!

Went to OM, all they have was Acer drives although there's a verbatim sticker in front of the box (include verbatime cdr). Anyone know if this drive is any good? I've ran CDSpeed test on this and the drive doesn't seem to get up to 24X, it only does up to 20x.

I just called the 1-800 number and they said they were out of stock in all thier warehouses. I did call my local store which had them in stock. Is there anyway i can order one by phone, and go to my B&M with the reciept and pick up one off the shelf? Other than that what are my options on getting one? Any help would be great

The only way to get the drive now is to find a store that is willing to except a print out of the on-line coupon or wait to see if they get more drives in for their web site at the end of the week like they did the last time they had a sale on this drive.

I called around to all the local officemax stores and found a store that had two left. They also said they would take the $25 off $100 coupon, but when I got there, the cdrw's were both Acers. Since I have nothing against Acer parts in general (my monitor is an Acer 99sl) I decided to get one. So far it seems OK, but since I only have 8x cdrs I can't test the speed right.

Went around to OM at downtown San Francisco and hunted through the stacks for a Lite-on. We finally found one, (last one, according the rep), but they wouldn't take online coupon. Wouldn't hold it either since they were getting so many requests for a Cendyne with a 12-digit serial, so I ended up just buying it. Now, I'm gonna take it around to other OM in the Bay Area, find a nice manager, and hope he can help me apply the $25 off $100 coupon. Only problem so far has been finding a printable $25 off $100 coupon. If anyone has one, can you please email it to me (hlouie@uclink.berkeley.edu) or PM?

Thanks...otherwise, only form of verification of coupon discount is the polaroid reciept for the 24x cd-burner that I just returned a day ago.

MysticMan1, The firmware on my Acer is P.MJ and when I go to download the firmware off of Acers website it is called pjj.exe. The date on my drive is January 2002, so I wonder which firmware is newer? Thanks

Well, I'll present it to the manager, ask if he/she'll honor the online version first. If they offer an argument that it's not yet over $100, then I'll grab a box of paper clips, return it, and buy it again for a total over $100.

Btw, only printable version of a "coupon" is the advertisement on OM's webpage detailing steps to get the online discount. If that's the one that everyone's talking about, I'll be at OM tomorrow...coupon in hand.

freeway the acer 24x i have has the pm.j firmware as well. I dont think there is a newer one.

hi guys,
I got an AOpen drive, but it is "made in China" as opposed to "made in Taiwan"...did you guys with Acer or Liteon got the ones that is made in China or Taiwan? Just wondering. I prefer the ones made in Taiwan (no offense to anyone)...

As i posted earlier i ordered one on the web site this morning and it was backordered. i'll get it but later.

sooo i printed out the $25 off coupon offer at the web site and went to the store. i talked to two people before i got to the manager ( all nice, all polite ) he wasnt too pumped about the $25 off but took care of me any way. ( very nice, very polite ) $99.99 - 25.00 = 74.99 - 40.00 rebate = 34.99 - no tax in oregon WaWho

oh btw for good or bad, it is an aopen

I think liteon and acer are transferring their plants from taiwan to the mainland (i.e. china). Most of the tw based motherboards manufacturers doing the same. I've seen most asus mbs are made in china recently.

The firmware on the Acercm.com site for the 2410A drive is listed as P.xJ (the file that is downloaded is "Pjj"). I doubt they would have older firmware on there donwload page. Here a link to the Firmware page LINK. I also doubt that the flash program would allow a newer firmware to be replace by a older version.

Edit: Maybe the firmware you have ("P.MJ") is the lates. As long you are happy with performance of the drive are is no need to upgrade the firmware.
