(DEAD) CenDyne 24x10x40 (20076846), $99.99 - $40 rebate - $25 coupon (applies only towards your first order) = $34.99 at OfficeMax starting (Silver-Tone #1 Paper Clips Item # 09015424 $.29)

So, What you can do is print-out the page with a $25 off $100 coupon on it, and take that to your local store, and tell your one of those friendly OfficeMax manages that you were going to buy the drive on-line, but they were out of stock and would he honor the $25 coupon, so you can purchase the drive from him. This has worked before, for a number of poeple, but it up the to manage to decide to honor the $25 coupon or not.

Update:They may not let people use the coupon code on phone order any nore. Also you can try calling in your order (they can check all the OM warehouses) at 800-283-7674. option 1, (SKU#20076846) use a $25 off $10 coupon code to receive the $25 discount (off your first order). If you are asked where you got the coupon code , say you received it in the mail from OfficeMax.

Did this a couple of times a while ago, but now most B&M don't take the online coupon. If this cannot be done, you'll be ordering online, and there will be a 80% chance that you will not be able to get a lite-on, since the rep cannot tell you the serial number of the item you're getting. Other than that, this is an awesome deal! I might try to do the B&M thing again at the last few OMs in the 100 mile radius.

I want to get in on this but after the Polaroid 24x deal I wonder what the odds are of getting a real Lite-On, Teac or AOpen/Acer. I'd be happy to get any of those 3 as long as it's not a BTC. Oh well, only one way to find out! :)

Does OM accept competitor coupons? I've got a $15 off $50 from OD and it would be nice if I can use it to get the drive sunday morning to see what's in the box. OM is only a block away from my place.

<< Does OM accept competitor coupons? >>

Usually not. But B&M varies depending on the manager.

<< Anyone have a link to this drive. I couldnt find it on the officemax website. >>

I couldnt find it either.

Oh and for those of you who are worried about rebates, I bought this drive a little while ago from officemax and I just got the rebate today. Took about 7 weeks which is pretty good.

MysticMan1, you should change your name to CDRWMan1. You come up with these deal every week. I was snookered into the Polaroid deal and I think I finally got one to work..albeit for one day...I might just pull the guy and replace it with the Cendyne next week.

Wow - I was gonna go there tonight to return my Polaroid. May be easier to just wait until Sunday, and EXCHANGE it for one of these...

that's a good idea for those that got in on the polaroid deal (myself included).
will there be any complications with the receipt, coupon, and especially the rebate?

I still have the box minus the UPC for the Polaroid...I just did a burn on the Polaroid and it quit half way through the burn...I'm so pissed!! So my question is: Can I return this piece of @%*! for the Cendyne on Sunday even though I don't have the UPC on the box anymore???

I don't see how there should...as long as you wait until Sunday (not sure when the CenDyne rebate starts). The coupon should be a wash - the two items sell for the same price.

Edit:

While the drive is not yet listed on their website, the rebate form is. It shows effective 3/3/02-3/30/02. So...if the store has it in stock now (and at this price) it's good to go now!

Some stores will let you return a item after you have removed the UPC code. What they do is deduct the amount of the rebate from the total that they charge back to your credit card, since you have already send in the rebate. I don't know if OfficeMax does this or not. Of course you could argue that the Polaroid drive was not the drive they had in the ad or the one you thougt you were buying.

The AOpen and Acer info has been verified, the Lite-on and TEAC info has not.

I'll verify that Lite-on serial number. I picked this up in the deal 2-3 weeks ago. The unit I have has a 12 digit serial number starting with 257148xxxxxx and the works "Smart-Burn Techology" on the box. Inside, label on the drive clearly says "LITE-ON LTR24102B".

Oh, and I hedged my bets when I bought this. I saw the (then suspected, now proven) Lite-on at an OM B&M, so I picked it up. But, no matter how I tried, I could not get them to take the $25 coupon at the B&M.

So, I ordered another one on-line at OM.com. It initially got backordered. I called OM and the CSR told me while they were out of stock in my region (NE), they had them in NJ, and had it shipped from that distribution center to me. I got it in 3 days.

The unit that came from OM.com was an Acer. Since I had two of them (unopened) at that point, I returned one to the B&M. Then I sent in the rebate for the Lite-On. :)

Thank you, Mysticman1

Did yours say Smart-burn on the outside of the box. Also did it say Lite-on on the drive or was it one of those verbatim labeled drive that are really rebagded Lite-ons.

It said "Smart-Burn Techology" on the outside of the box next to a serial number of the form 25714800xxxx, and inside the label on the drive said Lite-On LTR24102B.

No Verbatim anywhere in sight. I'm happy ;)

You were lucky, not to many people got the a rebagded Lite-on that wasn't the verbatim version of the rebagded Lite-on drive.

MysticMan, yes, but as you recall, flashing the CenDyne-Verbatim-LiteOn firmware in DOS changes the BIOS ID string from Verbatim to Lite-On, and then you can use it with any application that supports the Lite-On (such as Feurio).
