Hmmm, what's all this about canceled backorders? How'd they notify you? When you called up to cancel? I called this morning and the CSR told me the same line about the backorder being filled in 5-7 days. She did also ask me for my zip code first though, so maybe it's linked to their distribution centers. I don't know, but you've got me scared to call back up to confirm my order now Felix. ;) After all the happy dancing I've been doing today, I don't think I can handle having my dreams crushed like that. The CSR seemed really confident about it on the phone, and I grilled her about all the different contingencies that I figured OD might pull, and she gave me the green light on everything. Anyway, knock on wood and fingers crossed. I want that camera. PEACE.

During the transaction it did in fact show as 150, but after validating the coupon and moving through the checkout (maybe at the extra three digit cc stage) it changed to 180 ...the twenty dollar one stayed the same.

thanks. even @$209 it's a deal right now... but i just can't help think that in a few months it will be $99... just as the A60 was. that said, i'm having second thoughts... although i suppose i could sell it... i just never bothered with the buy and sell gig.

The A60 is a lot older. You need to consider that the camera under the A80 is the A70, which hasn't been under $200 retail yet.

Hey guys

I managed to get an order in for local pickup at my local OD. Unfortunately by the time my sister got there (to pick up and pay) the manager said it was "out of stock". Then after talking a few minutes with him (over the phone) he said that the one they had in stock was "on hold." I felt something very fishy was going on (probably holding it for himself)

My question is... can they confirm an order and then tell me it's out of stock (btw, there was a 20 minute Gap before ordering and going to the store.

HELP!!!

there's nothing you can do about employees who got dibbs on it except complain but that doesn't get you the camera. Just pass and look for the camera at a store with employees who don't read Hot Deals forums ... :)

you might ASK them if it was reserved for an employee or customer? take action based on that. since your order was confirmed, you should have precedent over employees -- bring the confirmation -- their mistake right? at the very least, you should be able to get a raincheck for the same price. good luck!

boo... i guess this one's gonna be cancelled. but I did try again and managed to get one on backorder...

we'll see how that goes...

this'll be a nice replacement to my lovely A60 =)

Mine is still on backorder, yet I never got a confirmation. I'm going to call later tonight, find out what's up.

If they do send it, I acquired the Corporate Memo from the Office Depot I went to who printed it out for me.

guys,

does anybody know what this status in OD.com means "Deleted by Delivery Cntr". I checked the status on my order of A80 on officedepot.com and thats what it says with delivery date of 1/1/0001. Till yesterday night it was "3 days pending" and delivery date of 4/26/04. Today it changed to the above status. Does it mean they have cancelled my order. Thanks for any info.

Miraculously enough, they now have the Canon A80 in ample stock and are accepting orders for it... but are not accepting the $180 off code and are not offering any substitution on the Nikon. So those of you whose orders were cancelled due to lack of warehouse stock, even being told the item was "discontinued," might be interested to know that it is un-discontinued and back in stock, so long as they can sell it at full price.

Hmm...I wonder if I can go into the store and get them to apply the $180 off? Was there a new memo sent out to not substitute this camera for the Nikon? Does anyone have a copy of the memo? If I go into the store will I need an actual coupon for the $20 off? Should I place it online and then pick it up in the store?

The web interface doesn't show stock for in-store pickup at my locals... but it does show it as "in-stock" for online orders, no matter what area one tries, which means they have it in their warehouse.

So I don't know if this would work or not. But I do know that their having been telling customers that the camera is discontinued and not being made anymore, when that isnt true (as per http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/home.html), is just plain uncool.

I ordered at 6:45 am on 4/21. My order originally showed a three day delivery scheduled for Monday 4/26. It moved to 4/23 and it got delivered to my work on 4/22. Their warehouse is a half mile away from work. The funny thing was that it shipped third party UPS. I fully expected to get screwed out of the deal from having read these posts. But, I got it.

Probably so, if they are anything like Dell and Gateway.

I just ordered one now. The first person I talked to said I'd have it on monday, but i wanted to ask a q about the camera so she sent my call to the other department, the guy said it might be a while before it gets here, that "the person i talked to before probably didnt know it was backordered" (she told me there were 8 in the local distributing center though..?), but he gave me the order, i didnt even have to give him the 180 off code, he got it from his manager.

For those who were told it was discontinued.. there was a misunderstanding. The deal for the Canon A80 is a substitute for a Nikon that was discontinued... this one just has a great price.

I just tried again and they told me that they could no longer use the coupon as it is blocked in their systems. They cannot apply it to backordered items and this was only while supplies last. I told them that it shows in stock on their website and asked if I could call back and have the coupon applied. They told me that if the website doesn't take the coupon then it is a no go. So it is NOT backordered at this point (they DO have inventory), but they will not apply the coupon via phone. Argh.

Is this deal dead now? On FW somebody said that they cancelled the substitution. Is this true?
