just another reason why aol is horrid. there is a setting to keep emails you've read, by default they are deleted after 3 days i think.

if you check mail via web, there is a tab called OLD MAIL (or recent read mail, whatever)
whatever you read magically disappears to another box. nice of aol

i immediately copy and pasted into my amazon account. that way they cant screw me over... :D

To cancel by fax it says I need my secret question answer.

It then says to go to AOL Keyword: Billing to get your question (I don't remember what mine was) Is there anyway to reach this on the website? Do I need to install the software to get to keyword Billing?

you'll prob have to call, to get to billing you have to install aol.

just be careful they dont delay it until they start billing you...

i just cancelled mine on my drive home :D
took me 12 minutes. wasn't as painless as i thought it would be, so i want to share with you guys how i did it

i was driving so i had to be on speakerphone (no headset for me :( ) after 5 minutes of screaming a bunch of yes's, no's, and my info into the speakerphone for their stupid automated lady in my car like a lunatic (they cant even catch my phone #... must be static on cell phone) i finally got to a person, who tries to be friendly with me and keep saying "awesome" (i'd kill him if he says awesome again)

he first asked me if i have broadband, i said yes. so he asked me why i cancel. I told him, I already have AOL (which i do have BYOA TCPIP for 5 bucks a month when i signed up back in 199?) and i opened a second one for my family. he said "awesome" i was like wtf at this point how awesome is it that he has this job. anyhow I verified my info and then I told him to verify the account he's cancelling, so he doesn't cancel the account i wanna keep. after he put me on hold for another 2 minutes. it's cancelled. the whole process, as the timer reported on my cell phone, was 12 minutes.

now i have to wait for written confirmation, which he said will take less than a week. and I can use my AOL until the 24th of this month... whatever.

so to all those of you going to cancel, just tell them you have another account already... they wont ask you for that account. and you can tell them BS like "that account's under my gf/bf/dad/mom/dog's name"

All I can tell them is if you can beat my current Highspeed deal I'll keep you account which incase you wanna know is $19.99 after $20 instant off 1.5/768 unlimited DSL. No contracts either and no expiration for that offer. I also forwarded the E-Mail to my Hotmail account twice and checked it to keep that E-Mail as new.

i told him i was a poor college student (which i am), and can't afford 10$/month. and also that everything that comes with AOL is useless to me. Then he tells me that they have online chatrooms with real professors, and im like great... i dont care, cancel it plz.

took about 9mins.

It was about the same here with cancelling. The girl I talked to was nice, but she kept saying "like" and "stuff" so I got over trying to be polite, and just told her there was nothing she could do to make me keep aol.

Prolly a stupid question, but do you have to use it all at once or can you make multiple small purchases with the GC? Thanks.

I think you can if you apply the GC first to your account so it deducts it from future purchases. I still am not sure about this so you might wanna wait.

A bump to remind those who were lucky enough to get in on this one to not forget to cancel-
I did today. Told her I was being deployed to Iraq. She said her son is over there too. I asked which part, and she told me Kuwait.

3 minutes. I win.

Sorry to bring back this old dead thread, but I'm getting desperate as Christmas approaches. Does anyone know if the $100 GC is good in toys as well?
