The price is great but the reviews on NewEgg are pretty mixed. I'd love to hear from someone who actually owns one before dropping $140 on it...

I have a 160GB My Book and it works great for me

bought it before i read anything description, because i figured i can cancel if i wanted, and went back to the product description page to see this message

Only 1 left in stock--order soon.

ROFL glad i got it in time. but just you watch, they probably went OOS a long time ago since i bet FWers and SDers were ordering by the 100s to sell on fleabay. bastages.

This is the dual interface one. Sweet deal. I have the USB one that I picked up from Best Buy for $160 after the 30% back to school coupon. This is a better deal. I wish I saw it sooner.

BTW, the 500 GB WD My Book works well, it is an external hard drive and works as advertised.

I actually own one of these and have no issues with it at all. It is extremely fast through FW400 (the only interface I have used) and is used as a storage drive for all my media. I have Azureus setup to auto-download TV content and it goes right on this drive, wakes it up when new content arrives and when it isn't in use it sleeps. One of the best drives on the market for personal use.

let me tell you it is a BIT#H to get the drives out of that mybook enclosure...other than that...AWESOME!

its got 2 1394 ports, can you have 2 firewire from 2 different computers hooked up to it and access the drive from both PCs at the same time? I know I can't do it with my Maxtor Extenal OneTouch drive...

No, it is a repeater, so you can daisy-chain drives together.

i own the 160 gig version. i like my drive. i bought it for like 60 bucks from target on sale. i had to take the first 1 back, because the controller was bad, but this new one works like a charm. Only a 1 yr warranty on it.

how can you have oredered it "just now" when deal has been dead for a few hours?
weird?

Update: Just checked my email and I got the cancellation note from Amazon too. What now? Can anything be done?

I got in on this just in time, must have been one of the first to have ordered.
RaGe420, how the hell did you find this? Great deal -- thank you so much for posting it!!!

Something like this used to be considered illegal in B&M -- bait and switch or such. A store would advertise low price "by mistake" to get you in.

Stores get around that now by putting the "while supplies last" disclaimer in the ad and then having 3 in stock. Still, it doesn't seem like the most ethical thing to do. Even if they oversold their inventory on hand, offering to backorder it would be more honest.
If everyone doesn't get cancelled, though, it probably isn't foul play.
