*DEAD*BFG Tech GeForce 8500 GT 256MB PCI-e Graphics Card

Nice, I am tempted. How are the MIR? IS BFG good with them?
EDIT: I bit, great price

For an non-HD HTPC, yes. I don't know about gaming.

With 4 times as much memory (in the 512MB version), it is barely better than a 128MB 6600GT, and not in every game and only in higher resolutions. Wow.

Wow that review makes this card look like dog-poo. I swear I found one that put in the middle but I'll do some more checking.

What did you expect? 🙂

I am not a gamer at all, so I am mostly clueless about real-life performance of graphics card. But the benchmarks I linked ARE shocking. A card that is TWO generations newer and has FOUR times as much memory is inferior to an older mid-range card.

Yeah after seeing those results I cancelled the 8500GT -- instead I just bought a X800XL for $45 (I'm no hardcore gamer just need to play BF2/CSS)

Where'd you get the X800XL at?

I think the original unedited reply referred to a 6600GT for $35. That was probably a good deal too.

how would this BFG Tech card compare against this Diamond Viper Radeon X1650PRO from Buy.com

Diamond Viper Radeon X1650PRO Graphics Card

In terms of price/performance ratio, it is probably a better deal. But Tom's has the GDDR3 version in their chart. This one is GDDR2, so it is most likely slower. It might also need a bigger PS than the nVidia card (420W according to Buy.com).

For an HTPC, this deal is worth considering:
