no- marulee is a board spammer and should be banned. thats all he does in all threads is that smiley face (or maybe one word like "wow"). just trying to falsely up his post count...

I think SuPrEIVIE was joking, kind of like an off topic post here, and people jump in and post "HOT - in for two!" or being able to recognize spammers because they don't change from the default avatar.

Kind of. The FX-53 is a Clawhammer made on a 130nm process. The 4000+ is a San Diego made on a 90nm process, and IIRC has some enhancements to memory controller plus adds SSE3 (not positive on those two). The FX-55 was available as either Clawhammer or San Diego. The one linked is a San Diego. Another thing is that the FX series are multiplier unlocked while the 4000+ is locked upwards.

Oh yeah, the 4000+ just had another price drop, now down to $90 shipped.

Amazingly cheap. I got in on the FX-55 deal two months ago and have been happy with it, although, I've heard people with 3700+ being able to break 3 ghz. I've had the FX-55 above 3 ghz, stable in everything except prime95. :(

ASRock 939Dual-VSTA if you can still find one for sale (or check For Sale forum). Alternately, the next choices would be any board using the Nforce3 chipset from any good mobo manufacturer.

Man, I just ordered one of the 4000+ from Newegg last week for $95. I is being delivered today. I was all exited until I saw the damn thing for $84.
There are some days when technology sucks!

Don't sweat it guys. I was talking to a gamer last Friday night that I know from local LAN parties, and he said that he has a 4000+ that he got about two years ago. He thinks it cost around $600 or $800 back then, and it is a 130nm core and not even the San Diego 90nm core. These things happen. Just roll with it and get on with gaming! (or whatever you use your computer for)

different bang for the buck, but what's a better bang for the buck, the c2d e6400 or e6300 at ~200 bucks to this deal?

A lot of it depends on what you use the system for and what parts you are hoping to keep with your upgrade.

Strictly gaming... only a handful of games have patches making them dual core aware and I don't expect dual core to add a huge amount to gaming for the next year... but who knows.

For upgrading... in a current thread in CPUs/Overclocking, someone has 2x1GB DDR400 on a socket 754 Sempron setup. The upgrade to one of these CPUs and a DFI Expert board will cost just under $200, minus probably $60 for selling old parts. The upgrade to a low end C2D, PLUS a motherboard, PLUS another 2GB RAM will cost about $500 up front, minus probably $200 for selling old parts. The C2D upgrade will still cost about $160 more. (Total guestimate, YMMV)

Another possible upgrade that comes up now and then is... have a high-end (relatively) AGP video card and DDR RAM and A64 3000+/3200+ on Nforce3 socket 939. Just a quick CPU swap away for a boost in performance w/o having to get new RAM/video.

Anyways, these CPUs aren't for everyone. Some people will benefit, others won't.

When the C2D E4300/4400 comes out in a month or two, both under $150, things will change. :D

must be some twisted folks here, always tormenting me with good deals when i'm short on cash. In the middle of building a new system and i get these deals popping up during the xmas cash crunch. Hmmmm..........nope, don't think the wife would let me sell her dog. just gotta hope the deals continue after xmas. Plus i gotta stay away from here until i got the cash. but thanks for the finds.

Happy Holidays everyone.

*SIGH* and I just ordered. Ordered at $85.99 and price dropped to $83.99, and Newegg automatically charged me the lower price. So, it hasn't shown up yet (tomorrow) and now at $79.99. Ahh well, I got it with a motherboard and free shipping using the Paypal coupon which is now expired, so instead of saving $4 on the CPU, I saved $7 on shipping.

for people that jumped on the sr1720nx deal (i think its the one with sempron 3200 or 3400) is this said deal chip worth the upgrade? or is the difference is not significant enough to just for $80?

thanks

Is that one of those $200 Gateway/HP deals for a whole system? It depends on your usage patterns and what else is in the system. If gaming, a video card to populate the PCI-E 16x slot. If it only has 512MB RAM, more RAM. If you're a multitasking maniac (more than just a browser and chat open, talking about Folding in the background or ripping MP3 from CD while you do other stuff) then a dual core would be better.

What is your intended use and what are other specs of the system?

Of course you can probably sell your socket 939 Sempron for about $20-25 so consider this CPU to be around $60. ;)

yes, that's the one.

this is my current in-between rig, already upgraded to 1 gig ram, 7800GT, right now its doing multi-task, but its going to be a permanent HTPC in the long run. right now it can't keep up the multi-task. (especially with beyondtv running maximum resolution on 2nd dvi out to projector)

i am considering 2 options,
upgrade to this cpu or higher and keep on doing what i do till i can build another rig (if upgrade, what CPU to use),
or
just leave the thing alone and start building another rig. (may steal the 7800gt from it and give HTPC a 7600 instead)
