For those that don't know, here's a little backgrounder:

https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-s...ocked-on-MSI-s-B350M-Gaming-Pro.373246.0.html

The "locked" Athlon 200GE (Raven Ridge derivative), can in fact apparently be overclocked with MSI mobos with AGESA 1.0.0.6 BIOS installed.

Well, Newegg has some (REFURB) MSI boards for $45. Throw in an A200GE for $60, and an SSD, and you've got the basis for a decent little starter OC rig.

MSI B350M BAZOOKA AM4 AMD B350 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard (REFURB) - $45.13

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813144091

AMD Athlon 200GE 2-Core, 4-Thread, 3.2 GHz Base, Socket AM4 35W YD200GC6FBBOX Desktop Processor - $49.99

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113544

CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Desktop Memory Model CMK8GX4M2A2666C16 - $62.99

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233826

Patriot SCORCH M.2 2280 256GB PCI-Express 3.0 x2 with NVMe 1.2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PS256GPM280SSDR - $42.99

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820225109

Approx $201 total.

Edit: If you need a case+PSU, here's an entry-level Logisys combo for under $30 from Newegg on ebay. My go-to "cheap case".

Edit: 2019-02-25: A200GE @ Newegg $49.99, for the next two days! Blows away the Intel equivalent! As fast as an FX-8350 in most things, especially overclocked to 3.80Ghz on that MSI board in the OP (still available!).

Edit: 2019-03-06: A200GE $59.99 @ Newegg, MSI B350 Bazooka *refurb* sold out. Deal's dead, sorry folks.

the price of a i3 7100 is irrelevant (why would you buy a cpu 3 gens old brand new? haha) . the point is the performance is very very low. i3 8100 is 110$ i guess if you just HAD to buy a pc now to possibly upgrade it later you could buy a 60$ cpu+tax (and then do what with it after?)

the i3 8100 crushes a 1500x @ 4ghz still.. just saying this is normal prices on a cpu thats is as slow as a 10 year old pc.

I wasn't trying to indicate that you should buy this deal, if you NEED performance. Just a fun thing to play with, some people may not have heard about the A200GE overclocking, and this is the cheapest that I've seen to get into that scene.

If you need performance, get a ThreadRipper.

Still, for under $250, plus OS, this represents some pretty decent entry-level value for a cheap but modern rig.

Edit: And, you could even slap in an RX 570 4GB card, they have been as low as $120 or so after promo code (Asus Strix), and turn it into a gaming PC. If so, don't use the Logisys case/PSU combo in the OP, get something with a slightly better PSU.

but thats the thing its not a modern rig!
The price, yea its not hot, nor is it even lower than the original price.. 200ge was 50$ in September and actually. still is 50+4 ship at nextwarehouse.com)

even the i3 8100 acer desktop for 310 shipped isnt so hot to me but i guess id rather buy used then i crippled system.

It has the most advanced video-decode block of any CPU or APU (Raven Ridge).

How is current-gen tech, not "modern"?

And, I've never seen the 200GE selling for only $50 @ Newegg. Feel free to post your own deal bundle if you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

Edit: It's now $49.99 @ Newegg. I stand corrected. :)

Is Raven Ridge near 4Ghz really that slow? I've always been fairly impressed by the performance of my Raven Ridge PCs.

I think that this A200GE rig would make an ideal upgrade from my friend's GF's FM1 rig, especially with a PCI-E M.2 NVMe SSD in it.

Sheesh, guys. This was not meant to be a "serious, performance PC deal". Just an opportunity to have a little fun. Think of it like a Rasberry PI deal or something to tinker with. You're not going to argue that you can't run Windows 10 very effectively on a Rasberry PI, are you?

200ge is 4000 passmark about the same as a 2400s from 2010.. about the only thing that saves it is nvme support (that imo is not that important just use a SSD sata for lower price higher capacity)
i did list the 50$ 200ge its from nextwarehouse.com as i said.. so yea not hot deal not even mSRP ;P ( you see all the reviews for 200ge show 55$ price heh)

would be kinda cool to stopgap with 200ge and a asrock b450 until your 3 series comes along and you dont want pcie4 etc.. /shrug

But can the 2400s, decode 4K60 VP9 video on YT? And considering that the 200GE is only a dual-core, that's not really that bad a comparison, is it? Not to mention, power-consumption is a lot lower.

Its not guys. Just one guy has an issue with this deal.

Its a good upgradeable starter system for someone and fun for someone that wants to overclock.

Price is irrelevant LOLOL....... Cracks me up. He was the one that brought the comparison up.

Keep posting deals Larry

Athlon 200GE for $49.99 for the next two days! @ Newegg .

Not too shabby, these are great little APUs. Maybe add some "OLOy" DDR4 RAM, they have been running some really good prices on their 4GB sticks of 2400 ($22.99 last time I checked), and those will overclock to 2667 without additional voltage.

Same price as 1 month ago but you bump! hahahahhaha, oh wait 4gb of ddr4 2400 for 22.99!!!! HOT! Hehehehe

You know the drill here about threadcrapping in Hot Deals

"What about COURTESY?

No thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread."

What B450 board would be appropriate for this CPU?

(Not going to build just yet.....but am very curious mostly because of StoreMI and Optane)
