Is my Verbatim screwy? I put in a 650MB CD-R into the drive and "My Computer" sees it as 648MB. Doesn't seem too suspicious, so I put another 650MB disc...My Comp sees it as 648MB. Hmm. Then what really confirms my suspicion is My Computer also reads different 700MB discs as 648MB. Why can't my burner distinguish between different disc sizes?
 
I finally got mine today. It was a Verbatim. Went to my local store, All they had were Lite Ons....So they switched me no problem.......Yippee!!!!
 
hey just checked my order status and it says shipped. the only questions i have is my order date shows as 5/26/02 on the order status page but i ordered it on 5/25/02 in the afternoon. i did print out my order at the time i ordered and it shows 5/25/02.

1. will this be a problem for me later when i try to get my rebates?
2. do you guys think my printed order page with the date of 5/25/02 will work for my rebates?

Mine came today. How do I check to see what brand it realy is? I pealed back the label and it says Lite-On
 
I took delivery today, with Lite-on S#, but they added
on Drive Model #VBT321240A a Verbatim give away hint.

DvM/Bios: Verbatim 321240AL firmware X8S2
Lite-on 3212405W? Built 4/2002
Works like a charm.

BTW: 700MB CDR reports 703MB and 650 is 654MB with Nero Retail 5.5.8.0

Who cares what My Computer says, what does your burning app (Nero) say? If your writing through explorer then you're doing packet writing and you won't get over 650mb with packet writing.

If your drive is the new
3212405W not the older 3212405S version, then you hit the jackpot because the W version uses the faster P-CAV writing technology instead of Z-CLV Link and I think it also adds support for the Mt. Rainier format. Also over on CDfreaks.com they are saying that the 32x W version can be flashed to the 40x W version. LINK
 
ricerx, call staples if you want to verify.. but the lady i spoke to immediately knew that in the afternoon/evening, they had server problems. all the orders got pushed back one day. the rep told me they were gonig to still accept the rebate.

I included a little note, a print out of the order history and order confrimation to explain everything. if i don't get it.. i'm gunna raise a stinkus.

doh...freaked me out...says its still pending my receiving the paperwork...which is kind of strange...i sent it out on last week (23rd)...

MysticMan1: The faceplate looks exactly like the (Feb. 2002)
2 Officemax Liteons, besides the Verbatim door print and flash.
Eject makes more noise, but the drive is still quitet. I don't
remember seeing an FCC # and it's label isn't covering up another
one. ...so it's my guess at 5w...
Nero's speed util. says Z-CLV.

Don't worry, often times it takes about 2 weeks to post rebate status after the receipt date. I have never had a Staples rebate rejected because I submitted only the packing slip. Actually, Staples is one of the better stores regarding receiving your rebates in a timely manner. I have received most of my rebates in 1-2 months.
 
ugh... has ANYONE flashed one w/ the model number of VBT321240A to a Lite on? is it a lite on?? someone mentioned it wasn't. The front bezel is identical to my 24x liteon.. right down to the font of the text.

If you did flash it.. what version of mtkflash did you use? I just tried to make a backup to no avail... the percentage cycled thru five times before i gave it the 3-button salute.
