The serial #s on all of the ones at this store were like this example:

It looks like CenDyne has added a new rebadged mfg for their 32x drive. All the CenDyne 32x drives purchased from OfficeMax were either a Lite-on or a Mitsumi rebadged drive. Now the question is who is this new mfg? What brand of burn-proof technology is it using?

Just ordered one for my roommate, and no problems with checkout (except I got the 4-day delivery notice).
All of this from my little college town of Bellingham, WA!

buuuuuummmMMMMMMPPPPPPP!

stoner87....
It uses Justlink...just look at the image.

Yeehaw! I'm a hyperlink!

Edit: Oops...look like it has a 8MB buffer. I guess that's not too bad
It looks like the new mfg might be a AOpen (CRW3248) 32x12x48 drive.

(The drive supports 32x writing (Z-CLV), 12x re-writing, 8MB Buffer, "JustLink" as the main anti-buffer under run technology )

Since it's a Staples rebate, why not go over to circuit city and price match? (or is it comp usa.... I always get those two mixed up, since they're both 1 1/2 hours away from me) I've done it before at one of the two, and one of the two has the Cendyne 32x burners.... Last time, it worked fine for me on a hard drive, I was out the door without having to wait for a rebate. I'd do the work of looking it up, but I already got in on this Staples deal (combo with Maxtor 80GB, 40 off 200, and will have both for a total of $90). Just thought I'd toss out the idea, and see if anyone else who wanted to do it could follow up with which has the pricematch policy, and the cendyne... GL

I just got back from Staples and got the last Cendyne burner. 😀 The guy was, "Where did you get these coupons?" and I said from the e-mail. He told that he would only accept them this time because he needs to see the whole e-mails because some sites post these coupons. 😛 Plus, I open the burner and it says Lite-On right on top of it! HAH! 😀

anyone else had luck with these coupons in B&M? (in NYC)? I have a few local deals that seem nice...dont wanna go if theyll turn me back tho

another aopen? man...i already have an aopen...selling it to get a liteon...oh well so far no coasters with this one...

Heh...before I went in, I found 2 different 20 off 100 coupons and printed them out on the same page. The dude asked if I wanted to use both of them. I told him that I didn't think that was possible, so he checked. If I was feeling a bit saucy, I might have been able to railroad them both through. 😉

I pricematched the burner in the store from here TheNerds.net (got the Liteon 🙂). Add a pack of 32X CDs and the UPS and I'll end up with an after rebate total of less than $40. Not bad, thanks for the heads up on the deal.

Ordered mine an hour ago. Got my confirmation in 5 min. How come I cant check the status on the staples website. Are they having trouble or do I have to wait until they ship?

I am having the same problem

I hope someone will help a newbie. I just got turned on to this forum and IT ROCKS!.... someone gave me a link to this thread and it seems to be an amazing deal. I ran to Staples and bought a drive....they had a pretty decent supply....all had 22 digit serials ending with JEDI.......I figured the coupon was a mail in type....now I read this whole thread and realize the coupons are instore/instant....I researched Google, joined mailing lists and all I could find was a coupon (same coupon as was posted previously in this thread) that said ya can't copy or duplicate....so what's the deal? do ya have to use the code on the phone or online?.....do they still have stock online?.....can I print the coupon and go to another Staples and buy the drive with the coupon and return the one I bought to the original store?......and what kinda drive does the serial I have belong to?

Please excuse the myriad of guestions but like I said I'm a newbie (my first post) and I want the $20 🙂
All help would be GREATLY appreciated

Thanks

I just bought one over the phone so as to not hassle with the OOS possibilities online. I went in one Staples this mornign and made it to the checkout with one that had some 12 digit serial, they insisted they were all the same when they looked, but then the head cashier went angry on me for trying to use the 20-off 100 coupon I printed out.

She said that they need to have the full email text and have the staples url in the bottom of the printout. I told her that I had never needed more than a legitimate coupon in the past and she said that this was the way things have always been. I then said, "I do not care to argue ma'am, but this coupon is legitimate and I could have ordered this drive online with this same coupon and no hassle, and free shipping. I just chose to drive down and pick it up myself." She said sorry and I didn't let the door hit me in the ass before I drove home to order teh drive over the phone.

It seems to me the advantage of going instore was to try adn get a 16meg buffer Mitsumi but I have not heard of anyone getting one from this Staple's deal. The serials I all saw were 12ish digits and were located on the back side of the box righthand side approximately in the middle.

I had the same problem checking my order status. I was wondering if it had been cancelled and called a CSR. She told me their servers "were a little slow." Whatever that means... But if you're worried, just call Staples...that's how I got my expected shipping date.

I just tried to order a drive by phone using a coupon I found online...they asked me if I was So and So...I said no and was told I couldn't use the coupon cuz they are not transferable.....I have searched Google, joined mailing lists and read this thread many times.....how to get the additional $20 off?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

This is a nice deal, however that link of the comparison changed my mind for buying one. Since there's not much performance gain between a 24x and a 32x, and since I already have a 24x, I'll just wait for the 40x drives later.

i got a verbatim drive. If its a liteon then im in luck.
btw the best drive ive got is that sanyo 24x. Writes on any media at 24x. I wonder if this'll do the same thing.

Morph....
The AOpen drive doesn't write Safedisc2 🙁 I hope I get a Lite-On
You can copy Safedisc2 with a AOpen drive using CD Mate or CloneCD (set your Region setting in Windows for Canada, then pull up CloneCD, you will be able to access the Amplify Weak Sectors box).
