Just do a return/re-purchase anytime during the rebate period and you will be ok.

 
when you fill out the rebate form online, how do they know when you purchased it?

will they charge me anything if I want to return it?

Staples.com stock and order fulfillment is regional so no no need to worry about others ordering not in your region because they will not effect your chances of getting the items that you want.

Because you have to include a copy of the packing list which shows the order date with the rebate. All you need to do is to go into any Staples store and return and then repurchase the drive. Most Staples B&Ms are civil and will do this.

Try putting in a order by phone (1-800-378-2753), they can have it shipped from another area. They are still in stock in the L.A. area (at 2:50 A.M. pst.)
 
Just ordered mine...needed a keyboard anyway so I will get a logitech keyboard and cdrw for 94.97 + tax - 50 for about 53 buck delivered to my door. Now this is what I call a hot deal
