Too bad I still have about 150 16x CDRs...

Lucky you, I have over 300 16x TY that Smart Burn will not burn faster (I've used that media id program as well). And yet it had no problems burning the Ritek/CMC 24x I have at 32x, grrrrrrr. Why oh why did I stock up on all those TY back then, sigh 🙁.

Here is a tip for those of you who might still go to the local B&M for a Lite-on drive.

I went to my local B&M today and they had a full table of the Cendyne drives located just as you walked into the store -- where all the weekly specials are. I looked them over and they were all Verbatims. But, when I walked back to the normal "drives" area of the store, there were four Lite-ons on the shelf. Make sure you check the shelves!

Got mine today and it is a Verbatim. I read thru the thread and may have missed it, but why is it better to have it be a Lite On vs Verbatim?

I got my drive today. LTR-32123S... so it's a LiteOn.

The generic outter box has all kinds of funky Cendyne standard descriptions on it such as 2MB buffer, BurnProtection technology, etc. Typical of rebadges, especially with several manufacturers being used for the product.

Nevertheless, thanks for the deal, and I hope everything works out for everyone else that was able to get in on this deal.

Have a good one,
-Eddie

Hey i just got my 17" NEC monitor from staples.com, and the sticker which has the upc code is torn up a bit and only like half of the UPC code is visible. Is there anything I can do about this or is my rebate just down the drain? Thanks
Call Staples.com and explain the situation. They should be able to provide a solution even if it means sending the monitor back and getting a replacement or crediting you the rebate $$$.

Bought one of these tonight at my local B&M - Scranton, Pa. as they were still OOS online. This one turns out to be a Lite-On. They had at least 2 large stacks (25+) left so maybe they will free them up for on-line buyers. Also saw a few of 80GB Maxtors on the shelf but was able to resist that one.

Ordered Monday AM, recieved a Lite-On Thursday AM (from Chambersburg, PA). Tried to resist, but failed! I'll enjoy using it, and Thanks, MysticMan1 !!

Damn I ordered one Monday AM too but I haven't recieved my ordered, still shows the burner out of stock. I did recieve the 50 pack of tdk cdrs that were 3 bucks after rebate which were shipped from Chambersburg, PA I'm guessing you got the last one ya lucky bastard.
🙂

I'm going to take back my AOPEN drive today and see if there are any liteons. All I need to look for is the 12 digits and no letters?

One more question about the AOpen drive. If it can't copy SD2 can it still burn CloneCD images and read them properly. That would be enough for me.

A question was asked earlier by Stevem627 - and the answer is............????????
could someone tell us. If verbatim is a rebadged lite-on why risk the flash failure I keep reading about.

This was/is a great deal - thanx for the post - I grabbed one Sunday out of a pile of about 50 - all vbt.... I went to another Staples in my area last night and they still had 3 on the shelf but they too were verbatims.

Went to my local Staples in Macon, GA, and they had 5 sitting on a table right as you walk in the door. All had 12 digit serial numbers so I looked for the model number on the sticker stating the specs on the back of the box. One had model LTR-32123S, two had VBT321240A, and two didn't state a model number. You know which one I got!!! I started to peel the Cendyne sticker off of the CDRW just to confirm and there is a Lite-On sticker underneath. You just need to look under the upper left corner, then press the sticker back down so you don't void your warranty. I bought a Buslink a few months back and it was the same way.

Also, at the store they can print extra copies of your receipts if you ask for those multiple MIR's and so you can keep an original in case the MIR gets lost in the mail. The UPS I bought printed out a MIR form with the receipt. The girl at the desk had the CDRW MIR's in a drawer and handed me one.

My computer #4's cd-rom is dead so I needed a new cd-rom. Now I'll put this in computer #1 and bump the rest down the line.

CDRW $99.98 + UPS $59.94 - $10 IR + twix $.59 (to get over $150)= $150.51 - $30 off $150 coupon + Tax $7.74 = $127.74 out the door - $50 CDRW MIR - $40 UPS MIR = $37.74 final for CDRW and a UPS!

Thanks MysticMan1!!!

Yes, Lite on has 12 digits as serial number outside the box.

I had one Aopen . Pretty happy with the price and would not care to do copy protect games ( SD 2 ) , however, the thing is dead right out of the box . I drive 30 miles to the closest Staples in West Palm , FL and I got an exchange . I open the box and it is a Lite on with 12 digit as the thread said. Happy , happy !!

May be I just got bad luck with Aopen but I would stick with Lite one from now on .

Just got back from the Rockville, MD store and they had three on the shelf. All three were verbatims. I decided to keep my Aopen for now.

I just bought two drives at the local Staples. One has the twelve digit serial number and the LTR-32123S identification above it. The other drive has the twelve digits but it doesn't have any sort of id (vbt, ltr, etc) above. Can someone help identify which one is a lite on and the rebadged verbatim. I know both are manufactured by Lite-on but some posts have said that some LTR-32123S were Verbatims when they took them out of the box. Thanks.

I might have missed this but I got the Lite-on and the highest burn speed I can use is 24x. I have Nero. Is there a setting I need to change in order to burn at 32x? Helpppppppp.

I ordered yesterday (thurs), and both my paperclips and CD-R is showing as shipped. Not too bad.

Woah, UPS *just* dropped a box outside of my door. Its contents? A single box of paperclips. Talk about a waste of shipping money 🙂

Hopefully the drive will follow after the weekend.

Jim 620, the media you are using is probably only rated to 24x. The burn speed slows to accomodate the media. Try 32X rated media.

it is lite-on's smart burn crap thing. the cd media you inserted, have not recognized by smartburn in the drive.
use another media or try update firmware to the new version, you may got lucky and will get your media recognized as 32x.
they adding new media with each new version of firmware.
