Hello everyone. I've been a long time reader of Anandtech and have learned alot from this board as I was preparing for my first build. Got all the parts the other day, and was able to get a MB-graphic card-proc-ram POST. Turned it off and went to bed. Next morning hooked up the rest and nothing. fans would only spin for a sec and then die. Stripped it back down and tried again. Nothing. ASUS told me to get it all the way down to just board and processor on cardboard. Nothing. They then told me to take it down to just board and case fan. Still nothing. So I RMAd the board. Just wanted your opinion on the situation. Can anyone think of anything else? ASUS tech support didnt seem real helpful and seemed to jump at a solution pretty quick. I know the PSU is ok. Heres a list of the specific parts that Im working with-
ASUS A8V deluxe MB
AMD 3500 venice
2gb kit Corsair XMS Twinx2048-3200c2pt RAM
Thermaltake purepower 560 PSU
EVGA 6800 GT

I had the case speaker hooked up when i first got it to POST although I didnt hear anything then. I bought the logitech Z550 speaker set but wasnt going to unpack that till everything was working. I figured if the fans wont even stay spinning, it isnt on long enough to give a msg. I dont know though...

Well Asus boards give error messages through the built in sound card, so you should try hooking up some headphones or something and see if it gives a message.

well feel free to give me the new member moron award. I went back at it thinking "Ill mess around with this for a few more minutes before i pack it all up" turns out i still had the floppy drive power connected. as soon as i unplugged it, fans kicked on. Im still sitting on cardboard going piece by piece confirming a POST each time but I feel better now that things are working. Thanks for the suggestions guys! Hopefully in a few days when the system is all up and running, Ill be able able to post "Hooray I built my first PC"
