I think the one place where it gets a bit muddled is with a 32" 1080p TV. I use one as my main computer monitor and sit 3.5' away from it. I went from a nice Dell 24" 1920x1200 monitor to the TV. I prefer the Dell for office work, but I much prefer the TV for gaming. Since I don't do much office work at home, I'm glad I went with the TV. Regardless of how close I sat to the 24" monitor, I didn't feel immersed in gaming like I do with the TV.

Anyways, there are definite pros and cons to each way, but I wanted to offer my take on this.
