What do they do with all the i/o shields they don't send out with refurbs? I've ordered to refurb boards from them and neither have the i/o shield.

Hey guys,

Just curious, what do you do if you don't have an IO shield?? Just install the board without one?? LOL..I know dumb question but.....

thanks,

Chappie

You can get an I/O shield from ASrock for like $5, which cuts into the savings a little, but you can find the number on their site to find out where to send the check.

NewEgg ships only the motherboard if you buy the refurbished product. You'll need to hunt down all the other bits and pieces separately. You also only have a couple of days to RMA if your board is bad.

I've just installed the board without the shield. The shield is mainly intended to lower EMR for FCC certification. Aside from cosmetics, I'm fine without it.

Selling them for $5 each on fleabay.

You guys all realize in the time you spend being sheisters trying to get a good deal, then hunting down all these parts you could easily have made enought money to buy the darn thing new and make some money..

Just ordered this board from Chief Value for $35.00 shipped. Also refurb. Arrives thursday, I'll post how mine turns out.

2/3/06 Update
Got the board yesterday. Appears almost new but just the board arrived with no accessories at all, just the board. I/O shield will come form Asrock, 5 bucks total shipped. Manual, drivers and bios I'll get from their website. Bought 2 more sticks of ram and will be getting a proc for it soon. I will have a total of 2 gigs ram with a 3200+ venice core cpu. Can't test until other parts arrive. Mine also arrived in a UPS box, nothing else.

Just found out the A64 3200+ I'm getting is an E3 stepping chip! Hoping to try some 1st time OCing with this rig.

I wasn't so interested in getting a good deal as I was about getting a tested motherboard. The RAID function is useless without the driver CD though!

Anyone know if it works with Corsair Value 1gig sticks?

I have 2x512 corsair value ram in mine, it has 4 banks and it will suport up to 4GB. So those three pieces of info together spell yes to me : )

I got the retail version of this board, and have the cd that came with it. Not sure if it'll help you guys who are lookng for the raid setup utility, though. Can anyone tell me what I'd need to do to make the utility available to you?

Ah, not so. They ship it as completely as it was returned to them. My first one came with the I/O shield, SATA cables, IDE cables, driver CDROM, and manual...everything it came with 'new'.

We'll see how lucky I get with the second one...should be here tomorrow.

Yup, my second one just came in a UPS box, nothing else. No biggie, it'll prolly spend its life as a bare board on the workbench 🙂

I'm going to do a quick flame on ASRock. Why would ya'll put the RAID configuration document on the CD and not on the website? Duh!

Anywhoo, for all ya'll mobo-only folks out there here's the scoop on using the SATA Raid 0 feature with Windows XP. If you can, download the latest SATA drivers from ASRock's website. Unzip the .zip and then the .exe file and copy the contents of SATA50XX (not the directory itself) to a formatted floppy disk.

Boot up your computer and press <Ctrl> and <A> at the same time. That's what the manual says, but I haven't had any luck yet. The rest should be pretty obvious.

Fire up the WinXP boot disk, and press F6 when displayed at the bottom of your screen. You will later be prompted for additional drivers where you will enter "S". Be sure to have your floppy inserted. Select the appropriate driver for your OS. Select the appropriate drive and partition to your taste. The rest is standard install business.

I'd also recommend burning a copy of the latest drivers onto a CD-ROM before setting up Windows, in case you'll need the LAN drivers.

Good luck!

Got mine, but a bad one, pop the cpu in and the temp starts to shoot up, HSF got hot. Back to newegg it goes.

My second one is working fine, running my Opterpwn 146 at 2.5 easy 🙂

First one has my new X2-3800 on it....also at 2.5, never even booted it at stock 😛

Though this board can overclock, it's not as stable overclocking as the NF4 eVGA board. I got my Venice to 2750Mhz, which this board only got it to 2600Mhz and not even stable. I would suspect the RAM voltage. However, even with dividers, it's not stable.

My asrock has my opteron 146 running 2.7@1.4v completely stable(12hrs prime stable). could do longer but, meh.
however in order to set my CPU voltage manually i had to go back to bios 1.02 the bios it came with would reset to auto every boot. 🙁

I ordered one from newegg. I've had good luck in the past with newegg's mobo refurbs, but the opposite with video cards. Is it fair to even call these 'refurbished'? Doesn't that imply that it was returned, repaired (or verified working) by the manufacturer, and resold? Anyhow, I have my fingers crossed.
