I always thought the Sonata was a nice case based upon web pictures. Last week I saw it in a Comp USA store and the real thing looks quite nasty IMHO. The gloss black paint shows every finger print and smuge.

If you are into the gaudey, this may be nice. I think I would much rather have a SLK3700-BQE.

Just my 2 cents.

The only other problem is Amazon Super Saver Shipping sucks. It takes them 3 to 5 business day before it will even ship. I have a number of items go longer, because if you pay extra $ it ships right away. So it may go OOS with Super Saver shipping, before it ships due to people paying extra $.

For $9 more you can get same case from Newegg and it will probably arrive a week earlier.

If you are willing to wait the Amazon deal is hot.

Only good thing about the Sonata is the rheostat on the PSU. The case, in every other way, is inferior to the BQE for cooling and noise.

On the BQE:
- Both side panels are removable
- Intake fan is infront of the drive cage
- Doesn't have excess designer holes on the case
- Has a smudge-free finish

IME, they always overstate the shipping time so as not to rouse expectations, but that things go out in 1-2 days.
For $9 more you can get same case from Newegg and it will probably arrive a week earlier.

Don't forget $8 in tax in CA, NJ and some other states. No tax from Amazon except MT.

I am glad your experience with Amazon shipping has been better than mine. Ordered a present for my wife 3 weeks in advance, after 2.5 weeks it still had not shipped. Ended up cancelling the order. I have placed other orders to that did not ship in a reasonable amount of time that I ended up cancelling.
Hopefully my experience is the exception rather than the rule.

You make a good point on tax. In MD it would be $4 on $80, except I don't recall having to pay tax on Amazon or Newegg.

I use to really like Amazon, but recently it appears they are trying to improve their profit margins and may not have as efficient service. JMHO.

This is not against your thread, just upset w/ Amazon.
The Antec SLK3700-BQE is one of the better cases out there.

The one thing the Sonata has on this case is the better front-panel options. The Sonata has the 2 usb, plus the firewire and the audio jacks. This case just has the 2 usb. No big deal if you dont use them though. Personally I like the Sonata. I like that the fan mount is in front of the hard drives in this case though. That is much better than the Sonata's behind the drives design.

I have the Sonata....it is a great, quiet case,...got it for $90 shipped a few months ago. All of my recent cases (last 4 years) have been Antec. They have all been excellent IMHO. Either or will suit anyone just fine....

I've ordered from amazon probably at least 20 times. I ordered the last 2 times the logitech 640's for like $47 or whatever. I always choose the free shipping, and i always seem to get them in 3-4 days from time of order. I've noticed the "disclaimer" that it will delay shipping. They dont get your money till they ship. They want your money.

I have never had a "delay" and checking the next up from free is for suckers that might believe that.

I guarantee right no i can order from newegg first, then Amazon and have it from amazon. Most of my computer stuff from amazon either comes from my State or the next state over.

Im in Delaware, Tax free state.

To make this thing quiet, they've removed the fan mount in the front, so that you will only have one 120mm fan in back. That's fine for most people, but if you fill this thing with 4 7200rpm hard drives, you're gonna wish you had a fan in front cause you'll be able to cook eggs on your drives. I have the SLK3700AMB which has 5 hard drive bays and I have 5 drives with a 120mm fan in front and back. When I tried running the front fan at low speed my drives would get quite hot. With no fan at all in front, I can only imagine how hot they would get. Not a good thing for the life expectancy of your hard drives.

NEGATIVE! I've got this case with a 120m in the front and one in the rear (delta). I've got 4x120 EIDE drives running 24x7 in the case. No problems so far!

I like this case. Yes the sonota's paint job and Antec name on the side is SWEET, but other than that it's the same case. Not too big, but big enough. Antec Powersupply is rock solid. It's also quiet. I have a controller for my 2 fans. 99% they run at default speed and it's very quiet. If I ratchet these up to 50d/80cf it's loud because of them.

Nice case and price.

if your worried about shipping, i got my sonata from amazon a few months back... it came in a decent amount of time...
as far as cases are concerned... i like my sonata... this could be better though...
i just don't know

This case sucks!

The paint is good, the cooling of 2x 120mm fan is nice, the PSU came with it is rather nice. But the build quality sucks!

I broke one of the 4 plastic tabs while removing the front bezel... I have had worked on more than 15 computers, and never had one case's plastic tab break on the first try.

I have this case, it's bigger than the Sonata, but runs cooler and is more roomy. Nice case.

I know, that is why I ordered one yesterday! :D It also shipped yesterday and I chose the free shipping method ;)

I hope it cools better than my 1030b. I really want it to be quieter and cooler so I can put it in my desk. The 1030b gets too warm
