Has anyone heard back from Marketbuilder since last week? This is now Monday and they promised to call today when contacted. There were several of us by the threads. I have not heard back from them by phone or email yet. Just wondering.

1) Can I use my existing PC2700 DDR with this cpu?
2) Will my Antec 300watt PSU be enough?

ram - that depends. look at the chart, it's in this thread

psu....definently not.

On the PSU.... Is there no way this will work? WIth just one HD and one CD device? I'm hoping to hold off till I find a good deal on a PSU. I don't want to get antsy and goto BestBuy and drop $80 on one.

I would bet it will work totally fine. The ram is what I'm not sure about.

PC2700 ram will work just fine in an A64 system, albeit it'll be a bit more sluggish than pc3200 ram. When you get the system up, you're going to have to use a divider so you don't run your pc2700 stuff 1:1 with the CPU, unless you think it can handle 400mhz.

well....a 300w power supply is hardly enough for anything these days. i've got 1 cd, one hd, and 4 case fans. with 400w i'm still pushing it a little

i guess you could try the 300w on it...but it may be unstable and you could end up with some trouble.

power supplies aren't that cheap now...you can get like a 450w for like $40, but it's not gonna be that good for overclocking because the rails aren't very steady on the un-named brand.

Avalon: are you saying I can run this amd64 3200+ at 400mhz bus speed and run my ram at 333 (166x2)?

airman86: I am not planning on overclocking so I'd rather not spend the money on upgrading my power supply if I can help it.

How do you know you're pushing it?

The only case where I think you'd need more than 300W of a good quality PSU like Antec is with multiple HDs and a 6800 and an oc'd cpu, but we're getting into a GH topic here, so I'll drop it at that.

My order number is E93023xx and is still at the Drop Shipper status :( I did send an email to TD and asked where my tracking number was, they answered by saying my order would ship shortly.

Finger crossed as this will be my DOTY as well.

I really wonder why people write thier order number as E9301XXX. What is wrong with people knowing your order number? I dont see how they can do any damage with that....

A good social engineer might be able to trick the CSR into doing something with your order, especially if they deduced your email address, maybe from your account here. In general, you shouldn't give anyone any more info then they need to know.

I'm doubting that the 300W supply will hold up. The CPU will draw up to 89W and articles have shown the 6800 to draw nearly 100w alone. The x800 uses less power, but you really don't want your system to be using anywhere near 100% of the rated power. You will bang your head troubleshooting random failures and failed installations.

If it were me, I would get a good Power Supply and eliminate that worry. You are already saving so much on this deal, you don't want that lingering doubt. There are many good 400+ watt power supplies that are priced in the $50-70 range. Stick with the quality brands (Antec, Fortron/Sparkle, Thermaltake, Enermax) and you won't every have to question that part of your system.

Let's see:

CPU = 89W
6800 = 100W
========
Total = 189 Watts

You really think 1 Hard drive, 1 dvd-rw, 1 floppy, 1 USB mouse, 5 case/cpu fans will use more than another 60 or 70 watts? I still dont see why 300 watts wouldnt be enough if it were a good vendor like Antec.

Let's see:

CPU 89W
6800 100W
HD 10W
DVD 20W
5 FANS 10W (minimum)
MOBO 50W (DDR, chipset, PCI - if not more)

There ya go, 280W, without really talking about surges. Plus, check your PS how much it delivers on the 5V and 3.3V lines total, you may find it's something like 150-200W or so, marginal. Even if you total all rated wattages, I bet you will not come up with a total of 300W, some cheap PS builders "lose" the watts along the way...
