This is the NewEgg Shell Shocker and I guess it will only last for the day or while supplies last. Is it hot or not?

Here is the link to the product.

And the 'generic' link to the deal details which may not last long.

This is my first post in this section and I'm not sure how much later I'll be up. If a mod wants to label it hot or whatever, please feel free.

Not sure. Based on performance, probably not. OC's only reach 2.7ghz at best (as far as I can find anyways...I wish it were better. I want a quad core). That being said, I think it sells only as low as $130 according to froogle, so not a bad deal as far as discounted prices are concerned.

I have a 9600BE that does 2.8GHz easy and that was on a SB600 board. Some have done higher, and SB750 boards help. But generally, the B2 phenoms don't do as well overclocking as B3.

I'm waiting for AM3 Phenom II 😀

Do you have a B2 or B3 9600BE?

I'm trying to decide between this with a new AM2 motherboard or a Q6600 and a new AM2+ motherboard.

SB600 motherboards go as cheap as $30. a $130 upgrade wouldn't be bad, but I don't know whether I'd see a performance increase against my current cpu.

If I could hope for a 3.0ghz oc, then I'd go for it.

Hmmm....790GX motherboards are $100. Will they overclock Phenom II's? They are backward compatible with AM2+. Then again, considering how expensive Phenom II's are, that's probably not the best thing to look into, in my case.

I ordered this as a combo w/ MB a few weeks back and got a B2. It is my understanding that AMD made all the B3 Models (with the TLB fix) end in a 50, so 9650, 9550, etc. The one I got from Newegg was a 9600BE and also a B2 stepping.
