Only if you don't already have a s939 setup. A lot of people here do, so this would be a great upgrade for them.

seems like a good deal.

Anyone know if they're still producing 939 socket chips, or are all these left over stock?

Wow, wish I had read those reviews first. Hopefully I'll be one of the lucky ones. I'll update after I get it in my system.

This is the first time I've ever ordered anything from them and the reseller ratings are making me worried. Oh well, I hope it goes ok..

Wow... I've bought several things from these guys in the past. But it's been more than a year since my last purchase from them. Looks like they're headed downhill.

Resellerratings isn't the only ratings service around. Use others (I've listed three more below) to get a more rounded opinion. There are also other ratings sites that can be found but I just pulled out a few others that I use along with reselerratings.com.

eCost at Bizrate

eCost at Pricegrabber.com

eCost at Epinions.com

edit:
I fixed a bad link. Again, RR is not a site to make a determination by itself. If you based your opinions on RR alone, you would never buy from Ofiice Depot, Office Max, Buy.com or Amazon. Just look at their ratings for those stores.

when their processors arrive wrapped in kleenex and saran wrap, don't come crying here! j/k, i hope that it works it for everyone who orders one.

Er, isn't the 4200+ 1MB cache per core also? Plus, it is 200MHz higher clock than Opteron, meaning higher multiplier too.

IIRC, only the 4400+ and 4800+ had 1MB L2 cache per core; the 4200+ and 4600+ were the same clock speeds respectively but with half the cache.

How much of an upgrade is this from an Athlon 64 3500+ (single core)? I'm only looking to get another year or so out of this PC and I just upgraded my graphics card to a 6800XT for pretty cheap for the same reason. Is this worth doing for me?

this would effectively be like having two of your current cpu's for you. It's 2.2ghz per core, the 1mb cache is the combined cache as some posters have previously mentioned. The 4400+ is the one with 1mb per core. If you do intensive gaming or video editing or DVD crunching then this is an excellent choice. I have this chip in my main machine, it overclocked to 2.75ghz both cores at 1.5v. My temps range from 32 degrees idle to 44 degrees at full load with a Big Typhoon. It cut my DVD processing times in half.

Yeah, I got excited, but then the web page loaded and the price was $199. :( Oh well, I have an Opteron 165 due to arrive tomorrow.
