fliguy84,

this is an OEM processor, so it does not come with any heatsink at all.

If you need a very good heatsink, I would recommend This one!

Ah, didn't realize it's OEM. I'll take a look at that heatsink, thanks.

for the money..you cant beat $22 shipped for that Artic Cooling Freezer 64 pro... it is an excellent heatsink and will even allow you to push your FX-55 higher!

Newegg Retail FX-55 San Diego Link

Just picked this up at $199, could not pass it up.

It's a good thing I don't have much $$$ right now, because otherwise I'd buy it even though I don't need it 😛

Damn, my dorm room is getting crowded... two desktops and a laptop on the way... gotta sell one 😀

I put together my AMD 939 system with 3000+ Venice core last August. Since then, I haven't followed the hardware world for a while. How much gain are we talking about between 939 3000+ and this CPU? I have the DFI LanParty mobo. Do you think I can overclock my 3000+ to match this CPU? Or it is a very good buy considering the price that I should just swap out the 3000+ and put this one in?

Thanks

Oh well, I guess that's what I get for waiting.

I thought the sale was going to run as long supplies lasted though.

They only have a certain amount that they can run the promo on. Once it's all sold, they can't do it anymore. I'll try to find another good one soon.

well that was big fat waste...

existing opty 144 (1.8ghz) ran @ 2.5ghz

new FX-55 (2.6ghz) runs @ 2.75

$140 for an extra .250ghz 🙁

i should learn not to buy into these quickie upgrades .... they aren't worth the cash.

You should be able to get higher than that, 2.9 at least. Unless your using stock hsf, and don't want to raise voltages, that is.

should be able to. Mine oc'ed to 2.99. I'm building another system for my 2nd fx-55 and will see how that overclocks this next week.

Mine got here yesterday. My new DangerDen water block tops won't be here until later this week. I hate waiting. 😀

Um, you do know these have an UNLOCKED MULTIPLIER right? Forget playing with the "FSB" -- crank the dang multiplier! If youve got watercooling you should do 3 EASY!

Hmm this deal might be dead, but that FX-55 + 250GB Seagate deal is still on for $200 🙂

This is only applicable to the San Diego core though. Buying a Clawhammer will get you a free Far Cry game instead 😛

Just got it running with an aBit A8N32X. Stepped the processor clock up to 15.0X, bumped the voltage up to 1.50(it failed Prime95 at 1.45v after a few minutes but booted windows fine) and running Prime95 with no problems so far. I bought the Freezer 64 Pro and my 100% loaded temp is running 56 degrees C. I didn't have any Artic Silver so I just ran the stock goo that came with the cpu cooler. I'll be redoing the heatsink tonight after work. How high can I go on the core Voltage and still be safe???

Finally had time to open mine today. The chip shipped in non-AMD OEM packaging. The pins were pressed against the plastic container, a couple of them bent but not severely. The chip looks brand new but Newegg really dropped the ball on packaging

CABCE 0522 XPMW

now to test..........also got a new SD 3700+ from ewiz (packed well :thumbsup😉 for the bro...
