I just couldn't resist and bought one an hour ago with a scythe infinity. 3.0 here I come. Just so everyone knows, this offer expires on 10/31/06.

Here's where I found the expiration date.

I hit 3ghz with ease, using 1.45vcore. I am going to try for higher with the DFI expert board when it comes in the mail 🙂

Gdamn it bought one..even though i do not need one...I will not come to HOT DEALS forum anymore...it should renamed to Deals make you go broke

This is a great deal......still glad I bought a 939 x2 3800+ at its low point a few weeks back ($152 shipped from the Egg). It does 270bus, but I run it at 250bus default V core.

^ Only 13.99 at the Egg I purchased the one from NewEgg. I want this thing running tonight, and my Mach II is ripped apart right now...Im trying to find a new top case (besides the PC-60).

**Just noticed...The base of the cooler does not cover the entire chip! Reading the reviews this seems to be a common problem...WTF??!! 😡**

Great..I just noticed the sent me the wrong sink!!!! It is to small to cover the entire chip!! FISUCK!!
Which cooler??

I "think" the Freezer 64 Pro leaves some of the chip uncovered...

Its actually not that chip but the IHS that has some left uncovered. The contact point between the AC Freezer Pro is directly above the chip itself. This is why it has been able to do so well in so many reviews. The heat passes through the IHS to the Freezer Pro then is 'vented'. While all of the IHS may not have equal cooling the part in contact with the processor does indeed receive direct cooling.

Looks funny, works fine 😉

On the $13.99 price at Newegg I *think* thats an open box....but when it comes to this sort of product an open box isnt a big risk. Nice find 😉

From the Arctic Cooling webpage explaining what you are seeing.....

The Cooler doesn't cover the complete CPU
The protection cap of the CPU is a lot larger than the DIE underneath that is to cool. The size of the DIE is just about 14x14mm. Thus not the complete protection cap needs to be covered. A smaller contact area can achieve a better cooling performance since the pressure and therefore the heat transfer in the important area will be higher.

The 'protection cap' they refer to is the IHS (Integrated Heat Spreader) I was refering to earlier. In short....(and not according to me, according to virtually every reviewing site)....it doesnt matter 😉

You guys are evil. I am actually thinking about getting this. I was originally gonna build a cheap media center, but this is just too good of a deal...

Yep, it is an "open box" item, but since it is just a heatsink and fan, I ordered one. Pretty good deal at less than $20.

Basically, this chip @3ghz (or even stock) would smoke any 939 dualcore in gaming. Beyond Oblivion and Q4, that is.

Thats not what the benchmarks on toms page say?
