Good upgrade if you have s939.

Is it an upgrade from Toledo X2 4200+? I do no gaming whatsoever.

Ummm nope, you have a dual core, should be fine, it's probably a downgrade in terms of multitasking while not gaming.

Edit: I nominate this as best find for a junior member, 8 posts and allready a keeper.

I 2nd that. Best cpu deal this year, even better than the Opteron 165 for $160 or Opteron 152 for $160. I'm replacing my Opty 165 (OC'd to 2.6) with this cpu so I can finally reach 3.0, yay!

If you're into gaming, check if your game actually uses multiple cores. I know Counter-Strike: Source (the game I play) only uses 1 of the cores, so this 3.0+Ghz single core cpu will really make a difference over my 2.6Ghz Opty 165.

Yeah, that's what I saw too. But it does seem to be better in audio ripping and in SOME video ripping apps.

Seems to be a great CPU for a $300 - $350 budget box. A hell lot of a budget box.

individual orders? You only get 1x $50 discount per order. Anyone know if the $50 discount can be used for multiple orders from the same person?

YAY, I just ordered the cpu twice with the promo code. Crossing my fingers that both orders are accepted. 2x FX-55 cpu's for under $280, wow.

I bought one in a matter of seconds. I was considering it at $209 but this is just too much. I already have dual cores in both my laptops for multitasking, my desktop is only for gaming so this is perfect.

I nominate OP for Elite. This is insane.

What a sweet deal.. I saw this on Spoofee a bit earlier - it's amazing if you want to get a sweet single core that has some serious overclocking headroom. Geeze - less than what I paid for my Core 2 Duo 6300!

Insane price. I didn't think I would buy another single core CPU again. Thanks OP.

So, looking to upgrade that August Acer desktop deal that had the Sempron. Do I need to get better cooling or should I just drop this FX-55 in?

I'm torn on the overclocking - on the one hand I'm all about the extra performance. On the other hand the system is whisper quiet now. What will I have to put up with to get decent overclocking?

THANKS!

This is a 90nm CPU so it won't be too bad with heat. You can pick up a 120mm fan to stick on a nice CPU heatsink and still have it run nice and quiet. Or get a Zalman 7700 cooler like mine. If you want to OC, you might want to consider something with heatpipes.

Notice it's an OEM CPU. It won't come with a fan and I wouldn't plan on using your Sempron's fan with it.
