Altec Lansing 6-Piece 90W Speaker System
$39.99 AR. Pretty good reviews(in fact many people rated it "one of the best"). Its regular price is $100. Good to use your rest MSN dollars. $40 rebate + $20 rebate.

Note: It's possible to PM COMPUSA price $77 to make it hotter. Ymmv as they seem to only carry it online. Go to COMPUSA and search 50205556. In fact when you try to check out, the price becomes $65.53 there. They advertised "save 15% Instantly on this Product!!!". Thanks given to sman.

So the math is:
$100-$38.5(110% pm)-$60 rebates = $1.5. And use fatcash/ebates to make it free...

And it seems that OD, walmart, amazon, buy.com... all have it for lower prices.
Edit: target has it for $78.99: here.

Specifications:
Warranty:Months 12/12
Product Description Altec Lansing 6-Piece PC Gaming and Desktop Theater
> 90 watts of total system power, Deep-bass compact subwoofer, 6-speaker surround
>> Performance drivers, Built-in controls, Headphone jack
>>> Distinctive all-decor styling, Total connectivity, Dual mode selector
>>>> Color-coded cables, shielded satellites

Great deal! Pretty much worked for me, $19.10 after rebates!

I took printouts of the CC page showing $77 and the order review page showing $65 + $15 shipping. They did a 110% pricematch on $65 + $15 for a bottom line of $79.10!

Not quite "very" YMMV I'd say. Many end up getting these to work cuz the store people can't remember every rebate that exists. It's very much worth a try to get it for ~$60 or $70ish (many stores carry these at <$99). You can always print rebates online, so if the clerk says "PM or rebate, not both", that's an easy decision.

I PMd a Santa Cruz to Cusa, got it $36 out the door, and the manager said "if there's rebates, go ahead and give them to the customer." $30 rebate already approved, and it's gonna get mailed the 26th :)

Bump for deal of the week.

Hmmm...well I don't live near one of these stores, so I can't easily do this. However, if I purchased online and then went to a B&M with a receipt is it possible I could get the price lowered?

Otherwise I'll have to make due with $40 speakers.

Shoot - and does anyone know the length of the rear speaker wire? Also, if it is easily extendable (i.e. what types of cables does it use?)? I guess I don't want these if I can't get the rears to the back of my room.

hey guys, this will be very helpful:

Thanks to ccrider for making the document. Download it here:
altec.zip

EDIT: I just got back from Circuit City and they pricematched to this printed document. They didn't even call to verify. Worked for me.

ccrider said:

<< created a decent looking MS word doc containing Term "In Store Pickup" $77.09 with strike thru and large font Price: $65.53 under the term "Save 15% instantly on this Product" along with all other altec info and picture.

Just print out in MS word "ignore borders" nullaltec.zip

any idea if a standalone dvd player's digital coax output can be hooked up in anyway to these kinds of speakers? is there a converter or anything?

this is a awesome deal, along with the pricematch with compusa. thats nice. Its true about either rebates or PM, but its still good with the 110% PM with CC.

i have the Logitech z560 and i got them for 40 shipped AR last year which was awesome. this is a upgrade for me. =)

if they said PM or rebates, go for the PM, because you can just print the rebates at home!!! :D

I bought these speakers a few months ago on closeout at Target ($25). I think they sound great for the price. Granted, they're no Klipsch, but for adding cheap 5.1 to your computer they work great. The bass is pretty good, not too muddy. The satellites may be at little tinny, but it's hard to complain about them...I've heard much, much worse that cost much more. The nice thing is that one of the satellites has a headphone jack, the power switch, and separate volume controls for center, surround and main -- very convenient for adjusting volume without messing with software.

I can now watch DVD's in 5.1 on my computer without having to fight with the kids over the TV! Oh, also great for surround sound gaming. :)

I just bought these... and even for the price I dont think they are worth it for me. I have sensitive ears when it comes to hiss and hum and these things when just sitting have both. It might not bother most... but for my its almost unbearable.

I dont think these compare at all. At $20.00, these speakers are barely worth it.

Yeah, they do 5.1--big whoop. The bass is terrible and the sound is not that great and I'm not even an audiophile. I'm going to see if the bass gets better with age, but so far, not good. Dont even bother listening to mp3s with even a little bass as it distorts very easily and sounds icky.

To contrast, my 6 yr old set of Altec Lansing ACS 48 speakers have deep thumping bass and pretty good satellite speakers, but they are only a 2.1 setup. I might go back to them though for the deep bass in games and mp3s.
