I called and their like who you wanna pricematch to? I'm like bestbuy, she's like sorry, there out of stock.

I'll try again.

Edit: Stupid warehouse is out of stock. Should I place one on hold in the store?

called. Got csr, Stephanie. Said BB is out of stock and she already did this 4 times and can't make an exception this time.

Here's the question. If everyone is getting this from Staples. How the heck is BB sold out?

Just to see what would happen I went to COMPUSA.
Asked about getting a pricematch.

CSR told me they would sell it to me for $179.99 + TAX price and give a Rebate Card on the spot for the $60 difference.

The Rebate Card is good for future in store purchases and would expire in 90 days if not used.

Did not think to ask if I could use the Rebate Card to get a second one.:(

Almost went for this because I got a $50 Gift Card as a Christmas gift.;)

Anybody else try ordering these on the phone after the results of the past few people? Like to know if I still have a chance.

Oh, and btw, if somebody happens to have an extra unopened 8mb drive btw, don't be afraid to pm me about buying it from you ;)

Yes I'd like to know too. I'll have some time tomorrow in the afternoon but the deal sounds like a YMMV but it might be worth a shot.

Sounds like it is dead and or dying. Definitely YMMV at this point. If thats the same Stephanie that I've dealt with before, it means Corporate has stepped in and officially squashed this deal; She's like the Grim Reaper of Staples PMs. Won't hurt to try again tomorrow though and you may have some luck at the B&M...although the coupons won't be as sweet. Still a good deal though if you can get the PM and 110%. 10% will cover your taxes and you won't have to wait on any MIR.

Now does anyone know of any good, reasonably priced RAID cards??? :D

I must have been one of the ones Stephanie said she already did the order for. Heres a cut from my conversation with her (possibly) via the live customer service applet on staples.com:

Stephanie: Your order is scheduled for delivery on 12/30/02 by local courier between the hours of 9-5, pending credit approval. Your order number is: ~

Ordered this around 7 or 8 est. She didn't seem to be any grim reaper of PM's to me. I did get turned down earlier in the day by just giving up when they said Bestbuy was out of stock, this time I told them that my local BB was in stock and after a call to verify she gave me the deal.

I finally managed to get one by phone order this afternoon. Took about 10 calls to get it, though. I can't remember exact amount, but it was around $95 shipped....not bad:)

So, it seems like they are price matching only if there is a competing BB nearby with the item in stock. In my case, I have a BB nearby with the drive in stock, but there is no competing staples nearby! Do you think I have a chance of getting this PM'ed?

BB site updated:

Not available for delivery at this time. Not available for store pickup.

Outta 5 BB's in my area, one of 'em has to have it in stock. (fingers x'd)

I will try in a few hours on phone with staples csr, hope this doesn't mean it's dead

i put in an order for two.

got 111.99 * 2 - 20 coupon + tax

my csr said i'd get mine around 12/30.

i checked my credit card (debit card) statement

and it showed that my avaiable balance was the price lower, but didn't actually show a transaction.

now, my avaiable balance is the same as my current balance.

uh oh......

how does one go about using these coupon codes for in-store purchases? Can you just tell them the code and be on your way? Also, if you call Staples' 800 number, they say that they don't do pricematching for rebates. Do you have to do anything special to allow pricematching for the rebate?

yes, just tell them the code. you might have to see the manager or something, i don't think a regular cashier can process the code.

for phone pm mir's. (this is how i did it)

they say, uh oh dunno if i can pm mir.

i say, it's a bb mir, not a manufacturers, you have no competing mir.

they say okay.

aww jezz,

this is how the staples did it.

pm to 111.99 *2 *1.075 -20 = 220.78

figures that they took the 20 off AFTER they added tax.

i shoulda paid 219.28 they screwed me for a dollar and fifty cents....... :(

You can also try 1-800-STAPLES. That's the # I called last night in the store. Problem is all these numbers go to the same call center. Once corporate squashes a deal, a record of it is placed with the item SKU. As soon as the CSR pulls the record up, it shows all the PMs and all the history since. To get this deal now, you gotta be lucky, persistent, and resourceful. Hopefully you get a nice CSR.

Good Luck!!! :D

I just called Staples to confirm the order I made last night. Their website "check order status" gives an error when you try to see what's going on so I got worried. She said the order is enroute to the warehouse and I should have it Monday, no problems at all!

Thanks again to Chizow for posting this deal and good luck to peeps trying to get in on it. (that was serious, not sarcastic) :)

I called up at about 8am today and they were out of stock. So the CSR told me to check my local store. My local store had it in stock. but would only price match before the rebate. So I asked for the local store to call up 1800 STAPLES as they have been allowing orders. They did and 1-800-STAPLES confirmed that they were accepting the Best Buy Rebate, but they were currently sold out. So the local manager stated that he would only match the phone order if they had them in stock, but since they didn't he would only match what the ad stated as the pre-rebate price. :disgust:

As you can guess I said "F* that" and went to Best Buy to pick it up. My local BB didn't have the one with the 8 meg buffer in stock (they had about 15 of the 2meg buffer ones though... no surprise there). I have them do a CFO for me and it appears that the local add is wrong. The ad 5168855 is an 80 gig with an 8 meg buffer not a 120 gig. The ad for 4816122 is the 120 gig with a 2 meg buffer. Once again a raised hell. This time with positive results. Since the ad was incorrect and I called them on a bait and switch, the manager game me the 120 gig with 8 meg buffer (the actual product item is 5168873) for the $120 without the rebate and a $20 gift certificate to BB. Not quite as hot as the Staples price match, but I didn't want to wait for Staples to get the item back in stock just as the Best Buy sale ran out.

For those with a CompUSA store near them, this may be a good alternative for receiving a hot price on this drive :)

as seen at fw:

BestBuy 12-25-02 to 12-28-02 has the following
Maxtor 120GB 8MB Hard Drive
Model L01P120
$179.99 - $60 MIR = $119.99
AD HERE

COMPUSA 12-29-02 to 01-04-03 has the following
Maxtor 120GB 8MB Hard Drive
MFR. PART # L01P120, SKU # 298702
$199.99 - $40 INSTANT SAVINGS = $159.99

--------------------------------------------------------

The breakdown for all those who haven't guessed yet

In-Store Price Guarantee ? If, within 30 days (14 days for computers, monitors, printers and notebooks, camcorders, digital cameras and radar detectors) of your purchase from Best Buy, you find a local competitor offering a lower price on an available product of the same brand and model, we'll refund the difference plus another 10% of the difference. Bring us verification of the lower price, plus your original Best Buy receipt to claim your refund.

$179.99 (BB) - $159.99 (CU) = $20.00
$20.00 x 110% = $22.00 Difference
$179.99 (BB) - $22.00 Difference = $157.99
$157.99 - $60 MIR, 12-25-02 to 12-28-02 = $97.99+Tax
