*Dead again* Intel P4 3.0 GHz E box CPU and MSI PT880 mobo - $199 @ Outpost

Looks like a pretty decent deal; a boxed 3.0 is around $200 elsewhere, so basically a free ~$50 mobo. It doesn't say it's a Prescott on the page, but in the email I received the link was titled "Intel P4 3/800 E".

Link

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz (800FSB) Box CPU
3 Year Limited Manufacturer Warranty, CPU Fan Included
Chipset: VIA PT880
Processor Support: Intel Pentium 4 upto 3.6GHz ( 533/800 FSB) or higher
Memory Support: Up to 4GB of PC3200 DDR DRAM
Expansion Slot: 1x (8X) AGP, 5x PCI
Other Features: 6.Ch Audio, 10/100 LAN, Serial ATA RAID

Forgot to mention the email says the offer ends September 2.

Hmm, link was working before. The original one in the email isn't working either now. Plus it's not coming up when searching for it. Looks like it disappeared, hopefully it will be back up shortly.

I managed to order the combo yesterday before they removed it, but email today stated its been cancelled because its being discontinued from their product line. Wouldn't expect to see it come back online anytime soon.

How nice of them to remove it from their product line no less than an hour after I received the promotional email.

Thanks CrazyGamer, I edited the topic...

went to phoenix frys and they had the P4 3.0E and an ECS (had lan, audio, SATA...not sure of model #) mobo for $179

Just a heads up. It's back in stock.

Anyone know if SATA is built into the chipset or does it use an external chip?

I ended up ordering one. Gonna replace a 2500+ with this setup. Not too much of a speed bump, but I'm a big fan of hyperthreading.

Anybody that ordered before they listed it back up again and had their order cancelled know how they are handling them? I received the cancellation email but online it still shows in progress.

Looks like it uses the same VIA southbridge that most of their Athlon 64 boards use, so it's going to be SATA support in the southbridge and not a 3rd party chip. Here's a link to the product page over at MSI: Mobo Specs

AWESOME. I think I'll actually use some SATA adaptors I have just to free up space in the case when I get this!

This is a GREAT deal. Still showing up in stock.

Some updates:

Finally got an email reply from Outpost.com customer service, they confirmed this was the 512k northwood combo being offered online.

Also they have removed the item from the website again.

Really? Dangit. I know Prescott performs worse most of the time, but in newer software like Doom3 it owns. This dissapoints me.

Edit: But oh well I guess. I guess I'll like a 3.0c if that's what I get. They sell for more anyways 🙂

Edit2: Not that I'm gonna sell mine ;-) I guess I should say they are more valuable.

Its possible them listing it online was a glitch again, I wouldnt count on receiving it unless they have given you a shipping confirmation already with all the confusion and cancellations going on.
