Good find, the drive in side the box should be a rebadged 8x/8x NEC ND-2500 drive.

You might want to also checkout the Officemax.com, Online Super Savings Event, "One day only" (Wed. June 23) sale. LINK

How did you find this? Was it emailed to you? Or was it a link from OM website? Just wanted to make sure it is nationwide before I take off from work early.

Yes, the ad is from a Officemax email.

Try this link

You have to change the part of the address that says "UseBVCookie=yes" to "UseBVCookie=no" when posting a link to Officemax.com

Thx Toxic and Mystic, I was waiting at the doors at 8AM at OM. I had been in earlier in the week eyeing up the Mad Dog 4x unit but had heard enough negative comments on the drives reliability to make me want to wait. The employee that helped me mentioned some back to school deals that would occur in less than a month that would be worth waiting on ... and less than a week later this HOT deal pops up !!
:D
There were only 3 drives left on the shelf and they had to manually key in the $40 off printed coupon, then ask me where I had gotten it from (me: ummm, Officemax email of course!) but gave me the deal nonetheless. Now I shall lie in wait for a hot deal on a wireless G router. *slinks back into shadows*

I've heard that the ND2500a can be firmware updated to support dual-format media... (e.g. an NEC2510a)

Does anyone know if there's any truth to this rumour?

kwo, I would not risk flashing the NEC drive based on discussions that came about throughout that thread (wherever it was .. I'm at work and can't spend time searching) but seem to recall that the Pioneer A06 was definitely confirmed to support what the NEC drive would not do reliably. YMMV, but who wants to screw a DVD/RW drive just to 'test things out' ?

Edit: Dug up that link for anyone interested in the latest firmware hack news
CD Freaks 2500a->2510 DL thread

I got one this morning for $39.99AR/AC with a $10 off $40 coupon.

The rebate only prints as $30 and it rang up as $79.99 instead of $89.99. It was the ND-2500A in the box.

Oringinally rang up at $89.99, clerk calls over the manager (I figure there goes the 10 off 40 coupon), he adjusts price to 79.99, okays the 10 off 40 coupon, and the register prints out a $30 rebate form. So with tax I got mine for $75.31-30 rebate = $45.31. It was indeed an NEC 2500A. Thanks for the post!

Got the last one here in Springfield (off the shelf at least) and it rang up $90 unfortunately. Just wish I had the coupon other than the one in their flyer...

Thanks for the deal.

just got one...told the rep the rebate was only $30 so he gave me the drive for $79...indeed a nec-2500A..It's weird..back of box advertised 8X RW..yes 8X RW but from what I know...NEC 2500A is a 4xRW....Sound like a mistake or false advertisement...Or simply technical wordings...

Hey guys,

Just wondering what color is the drive? From the box art it looks like a black bezel drive. I need white to match my system. Thanks.
