I ordered the VisionTek 3870 on 11-26-07. Been pushed back couple of times so far. Current ship date is 1-14-08. If prices keep falling at Newegg and others, I'll cancel and pay $20 more to actually have the card in hand. My total including shipping/tax was $218.

Right now Newegg has the same card for $249 w/free shipping. Another 15-20 dollar drop and I'll order. Especially if this order gets pushed back again. Seriously, takes 6 weeks to get stock in?

What Dell is doing would be considered a Ponzi scheme if they billed our credit cards for the undelivered and out of stock merchandise.

Actually dell never billed my card but they did place a holder on it for the amount of the order.

LOL, I went online to do just that and what do you know, it has shipped today. Dang it, just started doing more research on 8800GT and found the Palit 8800GT seemed to be a well cooled card with lots of OC potential.

Ah well, the Visiontek 3870 should suit me just fine and I can always Ebay it.

Although I got my GT from Best Buy, I ordered a Zalman VF900 and some extra heatsinks from Dell a couple of weeks ago. AFAIK, it's still not shipped yet. I won't be ordering from Dell again. That was my first experience with them and it will be my last. If a company advertises a product as being in stock, it should ship within 3 business days maximum.

Actually, I ordered the VisionTek 3870. Order date was 11-26-07. I figured it may take a while but wound up being much longer then I anticipated. The release date would come and go and then I would be sent a new release date etc....

Last time I checked the BFG8800GT shows 3-5 weeks ordered from Dell. Mine wound up being closer to 6 weeks.

I thought you ordered the MSI 8800gt. What's worse, newegg.com, zipzoomfly.com and clubit.com all have the MSI 8800gt in stock. Clubit.com is great but with more limited of a selection and they have it in stock. If I looked at other online stores they probably have it too.

I can't cancel my order because I used my AMEX points for a $50 Dell gift card. The card is only costing me $157. The 8800gt is not a rare commodity to be in stock anymore.

Kinda in the same boat. I got a great deal so I didn't want to cancel. However, if I knew it was going to take that long I would have paid the extra money and gotten it from another source.

That being said, big difference between 218 to 250 and the deal that you got. I would stick it out. That's a huge price break you are getting:)

This really ticks me off. If I buy a Dell, they have plenty of 8800gt cards. If we buy just a video card we have to wait months.

Dell.com - XPS 420: Core 2 Quad, 3GB, 500GB, Blu-Ray/DVDRW, Geforce 8800GT 512MB $932

Go to Dell Holiday Coupon Page and request a one-time-use 10% coupon.
Configure a Dell XPS 420 Desktop PC. If you are asked for a member ID, click enter the store anyway, then return here and re-click the XPS 420 link.
Apply the coupon in the cart.
Example configurations:

Base configuration with 500GB hard drive and 2 year warranty for $801:
XPS 420 Desktop with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU, Vista Home, 3GB memory, 500GB hard drive, 16x CD/DVD Burner, press "I will select a 27in wide flat panel monitor" but do not actually select the 27" monitor, 128MB ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro video card, de-select AS501 flat panel attached speakers, 2 year warranty for $927 or $801 after 10% coupon and automatic 4% discount.
With a Blu-Ray disc reader, Geforce 8800GT Graphics Card and 1 year warranty for $941:
XPS 420 Desktop with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU, Windows Vista Home, 3GB memory, 500GB hard drive, Blu-Ray Reader / DVD Burner drive, choose "No Monitor", 512MB Nvidia Geforce 8800GT Video Card, choose Dell Premium Optical USB Mouse, De-Select Blutooth & Memory Card Reader, choose "No Floppy Drive or Media Reader", choose no speakers, and 1 year warranty for $1079 or $932 after 10% coupon and automatic 4% discount. That is $130 more than the above base configuration, but is a great deal since buying a Geforce 8800GT 512MB video card would cost about $270 by itself and a BD-ROM/DVDRW Combo drive for about $220 by itself. This particular XPS 420 comes with a 425-watt power supply, enough to power a Geforce GTX or Ultra series video card.
Same configuration with a Blu-Ray disc reader and Geforce 8800GT Graphics Card, plus a 4 year warranty for $1141 with free $50 gift card:
XPS 420 Desktop with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU, Vista Home, 3GB memory, 500GB hard drive, Blu-Ray Reader / DVD Burner Drive, select "No Monitor", 512MB Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT video card, select "Dell Optical USB Mouse", de-select a Bluetooth/Media Reader, select "No Floppy Drive or Reader", de-select AS501 speakers by choosing "No Speakers", choose a 4 year in-home warranty with a free $50 gift card, total is $1378 or $1141 after 10% coupon and automatic 8% discount. The 4 year warranty includes a $50 gift card. This particular XPS 420 comes with a 425-watt power supply, enough to power a Geforce GTX or Ultra series video card.
Free shipping. Monitors can be added on the configuration pages, but it's a better deal to buy one elsewhere, such as a Acer 22" LCD for $230.

Those dirty bastards at Dell delayed my 8800gt until Jan 22nd. I'm very upset and I will now force myself to vomit to deal with the newest delay.
